The Lieutenant Governor further emphasized the importance of trusteeship, people’s participation and character-building in children, noting that a nation’s character is its most permanent infrastructure.
“To build a Developed India, we must prepare our fields, schools, villages, cities, and industries, and above all, we must place special emphasis on character-building in children. Bapu firmly believed that a nation’s character is its most permanent infrastructure," the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed confidence that Gandhi ji’s philosophy will guide India towards the goal of becoming a Developed Nation by 2047.
“Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has placed before us the blueprint of a Developed India which will be a powerful economy, expand prosperity among the people, expand opportunities, expand dignity and a developed India which will ensure access to justice for every citizen", the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed that technology should remain under human control and serve as an instrument for progress, not a substitute for conscience. He called upon children and youth to use modern tools responsibly while staying rooted in human values.
“I want all children and youth to remember that technology is only an instrument and the decision must remain ours. For however powerful the instrument may be, its direction is ultimately determined by the hand that wields it,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that while technology has connected people globally, it also raises questions of inclusivity and truth. He cautioned against misinformation and urged the youth to adopt Pujya Gandhi Ji’s discipline of verifying facts and engaging in dialogue before reacting. He reiterated that “Satyameva Jayate” truth alone triumphs- must remain a guiding principle for democracy.
“Bapu understood the relationship between truth and power very deeply. He called his life an experiment with the search for truth. I believe Truth is a spiritual discipline (sadhana). Truth is the habit of looking within oneself. Truth is the habit of verifying before believing any fact or information and truth is the habit of listening and understanding before responding immediately to anything,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of 2nd October, the Lieutenant Governor said it is an occasion to reflect on the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, who gave India a new way of thinking, standing against injustice and living with dignity. He emphasized that Gandhi ji’s legacy of truth and non-violence continues to hold relevance in today’s fast-changing, technology-driven world.
The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha today attended the Gandhi Jayanti Celebration organised by the School Education Department in collaboration with the Department of Culture. He extended heartfelt wishes to the citizens of Jammu Kashmir on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Pujya Mahatma Gandhi and congratulated children participating in cultural programmes as well as the toppers of the district-level symposium on truth and non-violence.
The Lieutenant Governor also commended the Kashmiri rendition of Bapu’s bhajan by Shri Gulzar Ahmed and the Hindi performance by students of Institute of Music and Fine Arts and the skit presented by the Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibag.

The Lieutenant Governor urged the youth of Jammu Kashmir to embrace discipline, fitness, and brotherhood and to stay away from drugs. He recalled the success of the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Campaign, which empowered thousands of young people through padyatras and civic action programmes. He called upon the youth to become brand ambassadors of the Fit India Movement and contribute to nation-building. He further stated that the real victory of a marathon lies not just in reaching the finish line, but in holding each other’s hands and moving forward together.
“Through the Kashmir Marathon- Run for Unity, youth have sent a message that no goal is too distant for a united India. All the runners have conveyed that their participation was an investment in a shared future, and their run was not only for themselves but for the new generation of Jammu Kashmir, which dreams of a better India and for that youth who is working day and night to make Jammu Kashmir a self-reliant and developed Union Territory,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Highlighting India’s diversity as its greatest identity, the Lieutenant Governor noted that despite differences in language, tradition, food, and attire, the heartbeat of India remains one. He stressed that unity is India’s strength, and when millions of steps move in one direction, even the highest mountains can be crossed.
“Run for Unity race is not merely the speed of our steps. It is the speed of our resolve and it is the speed of that faith which tells us that when people walk together, no destination remains impossible,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha felicitated the winners of J&K Police's Kashmir Marathon- Run for Unity in Srinagar.
He commended the enthusiasm and energy of the youth who participated in the event and congratulated all the runners and lauded the Jammu Kashmir Police for organizing the marathon, which has become a symbol of peace, unity and progress in the Union Territory.
