COURT ORDER ON NDC: A SETBACK FOR DEMOCRACY
We have read media reports of the order of the Federal High Court, sitting in Lokoja, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) @inecnigeria to deregister the National Democratic Party (NDC).
While we await the Certified True Copy of the judgment, we express our profound condemnation of the implications of the court order, which further constricts the democratic space in our country. This is particularly disturbing, coming after Nigerians had expended their resources to aspire to various elective offices under the platform of the NDC. This order is not only an asphyxiation of multiparty democracy in Nigeria but also an economic crime against Nigerians who invested in the party.
This situation, though activated through the court, fits neatly into the playbook of the APC-led Federal Government, which appears unwilling to allow the survival of a genuine opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, in order to pave the way for the President’s unchallenged re-election. The absurdities that have occurred under the APC Federal Government clearly demonstrate its disdain for fair political competition, which is most unfortunate.
The leadership of the genuine Peoples Democratic Party urges the leadership of the NDC to vigorously challenge this order within the ambit of the law while seeking the support of the Nigerian people in the struggle for democratic consolidation.
The Federal Government must take practical steps to reduce the political temperature of the country in the interest of peace, stability, and the preservation of democracy.

BREAKING: The Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has vacated its earlier judgment which directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party.
Justice Isah Dashen, the presiding judge, held that the earlier judgment was constitutionally defective as it was delivered without hearing from all interested parties.
The ruling follows an application filed by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), where it argued that NDC’s registration was based on a logo it had previously submitted to INEC before the commencement of the suit.
According to the judge, all relevant parties must be heard before any substantive decision can be made in the matter.
Consequently, the court ordered that the substantive suit should begin afresh, with INEC, the PMP, and the NDC as parties to the case.
Justice Dashen further ruled that the status quo be restored to what it was before the December 2025 judgment, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Counsel to the applicant, Chikezie Ekeocha, told journalists that the PMP approached the court after discovering that NDC’s registration was based on a logo it had previously submitted to INEC before the commencement of the suit.
According to Ekeocha, the court agreed that the applicant’s rights had been affected and consequently vacated the earlier judgment, which directed the registration of NDC as a political party.

@OfficialPDPNig Commends Governor Nwifuru for Calling Out Wike
The Peoples Democratic Party commends the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for calling out and condemning the anti-party activities and political blackmail of the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
The Governor, who recently publicly cautioned the Minister to refrain from stoking political crisis in Ebonyi State, using political misinformation, the President’s name, and anti-party gimmicks, reiterated the painful fact of Wike’s meddlesomeness in political affairs outside his official and geographic jurisdictions.
We are certain that Governor Nwifuru is conscious of the ignoble role Wike, then as the Governor of Rivers State, played in pushing his predecessor out of the PDP. His outburst finds historical corroboration in a similar challenge undertaken by his predecessor, His Excellency, Engr. David Umahi, who said that the only notable thing Wike has done is the crude accumulation and conversion of public wealth-accusations Wike has not refuted.
We reiterate that the Peoples Democratic Party, as an opposition party, is not and cannot be in an alliance with the ruling party. We are a principled political party and will continue to insist on best practices in political contests in a bid to help achieve democratic consolidation in our country. For the record, the candidate of the authentic and uncompromised PDP is Mr. Eze Alexander, who, for all intents and purposes, is in the race as an opposition candidate, not a ruling party-aligned candidate.
We urge the public to join the Governor of Ebonyi State and any other governors who are bold enough in condemning a wicked attempt by Wike to “put fire” in their states.

Live pictures from the just concluded @OfficialPDPNig iNWC Stakeholders Meeting with State Chairmen, Board of Trustees (BoT) and Governorship Candidates.
2027: @OfficialPDPNig iNWC, BoT, and Gov Candidates Converge in Abuja as iNWC Presents Certificates of Return.
The meeting, which held at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja in preparation for the 2027 general elections, was presided over by the National Chairman of the interim National Working Committee (iNWC), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
During the meeting, the state chairmen of the party commended the Interim National Working Committee (INWC) for all its efforts and commitment.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, Dupe Aisida, Esq., said the INWC is the oxygen of the party, noting that the committee has been providing everything required for the sustenance of the party at the state levels. He applauded the INWC for its vision and determination, adding that its focus on moving forward despite all odds has enabled the party to achieve this milestone.
He further acknowledged the efforts of the INWC, saying that even though nobody thought the party could survive the onslaught of the APC federal government—which had made things difficult for both the opposition and the country, the INWC weathered the storm and kept the party on its feet.
The high point of the event was the formal presentation of Certificates of Return to all gubernatorial candidates by the iNWC. This presentation marks the official ratification of the candidates' victories following the party's recent primary elections, firmly cementing the PDP's leadership lineup across the states well ahead of the upcoming electoral season.
Responding on behalf of the gubernatorial candidates, Barr. Benedict Etanabene said “we did not take any risk by picking tickets under the Turaki-led PDP, because as a lawyer i know that this is the authentic and mainstream party.” He also commended the PDP leadership under Turaki for demonstrating exceptional brilliance, adding that the only time Nigerians experienced meaningful leadership was when the presidential candidate of the party, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was at the helm of affairs as President of the country.
Also, the gubernatorial candidate of the party for Adamawa State also commended the leadership for its impeccable management of the party. Dr. Caleb Andrew expressed optimism that the party under the leadership of Kabiru Turaki will not only win at the state levels but will also secure victory at the national level.
The candidates assured the party of their commitment and pledged to continue supporting and working with the leadership ahead of the general elections.
PDP… Power to the People!

We received a delegation from the European Union (EU) led by the Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, His Excellency Gautier Mignot which included Prof Leila Ben Amor Mathieu. Our discussions centred on the ongoing partnership between the EU and Oyo State.
Specific areas of cooperation discussed include Climate Smart Agriculture under the Global Gateway Investment Strategy as the EU has interests in the value chain in the dairy and cocoa sectors. We also discussed ongoing collaborations on Education, Social Protection and the fight against Gender-Based Violence and future collaborations on Tourism.
All in all, we had a very productive meeting and look forward to strengthening our partnerships for the benefit of our citizens. I also had a private meeting with the ambassador afterwards.

@OfficialPDPNig congratulates RT. HON. FRED AGBEDI ON EMERGENCE AS
MINORITY LEADER
The Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated Rt. Hon. Frederick Agbedi on his emergence as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. The party welcomed the announcement made by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during the plenary earlier today.
The National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, described Hon. Agbedi's emergence as "a mark of earned trust and deep confidence in his leadership abilities", describing the new Minority Leader as a "trustworthy, firm, irrepressible and principled politician, who responds only to
conviction, not convenience."
Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi, who represents Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, was, before this elevation, the Leader of the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives.
He is a former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State. He has been an unrepentant member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who believes in the party as an opposition, not an appendage of the ruling party.
The Party is certain that Hon. Agbedi will deploy his talents, competencies, and character in
the service of the House of Representatives, the legislature, and the larger Nigerian people.

JUNE 12: DEMOCRACY STILL STRUGGLING, 33 YEARS AFTER
As we commemorate Democracy Day, we remember the June 12, 1993, election (widely regarded as the freest and fairest in our history) and the sacrifices made to defend the people's mandate. We are reminded of the enthusiasm the citizenry displayed as they consciously blurred pre-existing fault lines and voted in a way that reflected a united country in search of progress. We equally remember the actions of undemocratic forces who strenuously fought to stall the wishes of the people, sparking a nationwide resistance that unfortunately claimed many lives.
Thirty-three years later, the lessons of June 12 ring out more resoundingly than ever, calling
on the Federal Government to act responsibly to uphold democracy, to guarantee civil rights such as the right to peaceful assembly and protest, and to protect the democratic rights of the
opposition. They remind the electoral umpire of its critical role in the survival of democracy,
a role that demands transparent impartiality and unimpeachable fairness, not as aspirations,
but as minimum standards.
Reality check, however, provides damning evidence that under this APC-led Federal Government, the lessons of June 12 remain painfully unlearnt. Today, of all days-a day set
aside to honour the blood of democratic martyrs, peaceful protesters were teargassed and
assaulted in Abuja. Omoleye Sowore was reportedly injured and hospitalised for doing nothing more than demanding the immediate release of schoolchildren and teachers held hostage across different parts of the country. This Tinubu administration unashamedly
prioritises optics over action, propaganda over policy, and dwells in a dangerous utopian self-
delusion. Their disposition to governance has reduced this sacred day to a mere historic
remembrance, rather than being a celebration of democratic consolidation.
As the 2027 elections approach, we are hopeful that this commemoration will serve as a timely reminder to every citizen of the importance of vigilance and the unrelenting demand for democratic consolidation. The sacrifices of the past must not be reduced to ceremonial memory. They must be active warnings, that this country must never again travel the path of state-engineered anti-democratic actions.
