Muhammad Usman, popularly known as “Dr. Scorpion,” runs a Lagos-based scorpion farm housing more than 10,000 scorpions, extracting their venom for research and commercial use. 🇳🇬

The former Nigerian Air Force corporal left active service in December 2024 to focus on scorpion farming, an idea he first discovered while serving in the military.

His facility can extract about 9–10 millilitres of venom from 1,000 scorpions, while the venom is sought for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and cosmetic research.

Usman says the business can generate returns worth millions of dollars, although actual venom prices vary by species, purity and market.
