@JoanneOR_Ox Said similar on my Insta stories the other day.... a moral obligation / being guilt tripped should not be the reason people should support the women.
🏑 Shauna Connolly launched the ‘Shorts Not Skorts’ campaign in 2023 in the hopes of bringing Camogie into the 21st century.
This week I spoke to her about the Camogie Association’s recent vote to allow shorts to become part of the sport’s official kit👇
#BREAKING: Congress vote 98% in favour of allowing camogie teams the choice of wearing either #skorts or #shorts
In a statement released by the Camogie Association, Uachtarán Brian Molloy said:
“We are pleased to announce that delegates have voted by an overwhelming majority in favour of giving players greater choice in their playing attire. From midnight tonight, each individual player will have the option to wear skorts or shorts - adding choice while maintaining the professionalism and uniformity of our team kits in both colour and design.
I want to sincerely thank our incredible volunteers for their ongoing support over the last few weeks, and to our delegates for voting on behalf of over 120,000 members, including 94,000 playing members.
As the All-Ireland Championships begin this weekend, we ask everyone to support their teams, drive higher attendances at all upcoming games, and help us fill Croke Park for the finals on August 10th.”
@The42_ie I don't get why the association is trying to make the skort better and "more comfortable" when we already have a solution... shorts.
If players wanted to wear comfortable skorts, they'd have found them from another brand and wear them at training.
Deflection
@sinead_farrell7 Unsurprising they've stuck to the "democratic" voting rhetoric. I get to an extent, but when I was at congress it seemed as though some delegates were voting from their own POV
Don't blame men, the GAA or "old people". We've had unwavering support from older men and women. They were open minded. Plenty of male journalists, coaches, friends and dads etc have backed the campaign.. GAA is not responsible for the Camogie Association
Camogie Association tried to shut down the Short not Skorts campaign in March 2023 when it was launched. Saying I broke the social policies which i did not. I did not back down. We were threatened with penalties if we protested to wear shorts in games.
