On Monday, July 13, 2026, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) hosted a strategic delegation from the United States Department of the Treasury, Office of African Nations, for an engaging dialogue on Nigeria's macroeconomic outlook and opportunities to strengthen U.S.-Nigeria economic cooperation.
The U.S. Treasury delegation was led by Mr. Patrick L. Stuart, Deputy Director, and comprised Mr. James McNally, Political Economic Officer, and Ms. Mayowa Obilade, Economist Specialist. The NESG delegation was led by Dr. Tayo Aduloju, Chief Executive Officer, alongside Dr. Faith A. Iyoha, Deputy Head of Research and Development, and Mr. Sodik Adejonwo Olofin, Economist.
During the engagement, Dr. Faith A. Iyoha presented an overview of the state of the Nigerian economy, highlighting recent macroeconomic developments, key factors shaping Nigeria's economic outlook, and near-term priorities. The discussion reaffirmed the improving trajectory of Nigeria's macroeconomic environment following recent reforms. While acknowledging that significant challenges remain, both sides recognized progress in strengthening policy direction, improving the economic narrative, and creating a more predictable environment for investment.
The engagement also highlighted opportunities for deeper U.S.-Nigeria economic cooperation, particularly through increased private-sector participation, investment in strategic sectors, and the leveraging of Nigeria's market potential to support sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
The NESG looks forward to continued engagement with stakeholders and international partners in advancing evidence-based policy dialogue, strengthening economic partnerships, and supporting initiatives that contribute to Nigeria's sustainable economic transformation.

🚨 New Report: NESG Business Confidence Monitor for June 2026
Nigeria’s business environment expanded for the sixth consecutive month in 2026. The Current Business Performance Index stood at 104.6 points, unchanged from May 2026. The index, however, was lower than the 113.6 points recorded in June 2025.
Nevertheless, business growth was supported by continued expansion in Manufacturing and Trade, as well as the recovery in Non-Manufacturing and Agriculture. However, business activity was constrained by elevated input prices, supply bottlenecks, limited access to finance, irregular power supply, high rental costs, and widespread insecurity during the month.
Further breakdown indicates uneven performance across sectors in June 2026. Manufacturing and Trade remained in expansion, but registered a weaker performance relative to the previous month. Agriculture and Non-manufacturing also moved into expansion in June 2026, while Services contracted during the month.
