Albums removed from Spotify

Two of my albums has been taken down from @Spotify due to a couple of the songs being flagged for possible artificial streaming numbers.

I have since reached out to both my distributor (@DistroKid ) and Spotify's support center.

The fact is, that me and so many other small artists on Spotify via Distrokid keep getting added to botted playlists. These playlists are run by websites that provides "a service" where you can buy streams.

Via Distrokid's own services, you have several tools to "gain exposure";

- Playlister

Wheel of playlist is basically you spin a roulette 3 times, the lowest number you get will be your songs position on Distrokid's playlist until you get bumped.

Slaps is a place you can push out your songs to other Distrokid users for feedback and exposure.

Playlist spotlight is your songs being pitched in 1v1's for people to vote on the best song to get on playlists.

Playlister is a search engine that give you contact info to playlist managers that you can reach out to for a possible playlist adds.

When you use these features, you're not only exposed to audiences. You are also exposed to the snakes I mentioned earlier, that add you to their botted playlist. Suddenly, you might notice you gain 1000 monthly listeners over night. When you check it out, you have been added to playlists that directly links back to these sites where you can buy streams.

This is a marketing tactic by these people. Try to give you a taste of "exposure" and to get you wanting more (ergo get you to buy streams). This is obviously just a scam, as stated by Spotify themselves. But it does not matter, as you will keep being added to this playlists, as they are many.

A lot of my songs were added to playlists like this, and over night i had gained hundreds of listeners from Finland and the US. I looked on reddit, and found A LOT of other people from Distrokid facing the same issue. And the biggest problem of it all, many of them face infringements and suspensions by Spotify for it and had their music taken down.

This is sick and twisted, that something that's completely out of your control can punish you like this. And from the looks of it, these sites and these playlists have been operating for years now without action taken against them.

So back to my own situation. My Albums "Speed Demon" (7 tracks) and "Deceivers" (7 tracks) have been taken down as of today, due to Spotify detecting that a few of the songs on there have been gaining streams from these playlists.

I have reached out to them about the issue, explained the situation and referred to several reddit threads where other people are talking about it and how they all have reported it to Spotify.

Spotify basically told me "This is not our problem, we will end this conversation now" (I'll add screenshots). And I'm still waiting for response from Distrokid, though distrokids policies states i need to contact Spotify.

If this is how reality is. That our music can be taken down because other malicious people can add your music to botted playlist or bot your streaming numbers, then we are all doomed. I have friends who has been added to the same playlists as i, who also have had their numbers spike as a result and now fear it might happen to them too.

I don't care about the streaming numbers, Spotify can nullify them for all i care! But i paid good money to Distrokid to leave my album on Spotify forever, and i will be demanding a refund if they are taken down because some malicious people decided to pull this shit on me and others.
