The CPJ affirmed the original "journalist" definition. That's good. But there's more work to do.
This entire fiasco has exposed real issues at the organisation.
Part 2 of our campaigns makes the following demands:
1. Remove Jacob Weisberg as chair of the board. As chair, he drove the move to reopen who counts as a journalist. Affirming the definition is welcome, but the person who pushed to reopen it should not remain the person who guards it.
2. Appoint a Palestinian representative to the board. The journalists most affected by this decision are Palestinian. They should have a voice in the room where it is made.
3. Open the methodology to independent scrutiny. Have an international human rights lawyer from outside CPJ, working alongside Palestinian representation, review the methodology and every contested removal against the definition you have just affirmed, publish the basis for each, and reinstate any name not supported by clear evidence of direct participation in hostilities.

It took a little longer than expected, but we have created a website for people to view the footage collected from Gaza in one place. You no longer have to download the entire archives to see them.
It includes:
64,537 videos
17,905 photos
Ability to download individual videos
Searchable index
Exhaustive sources list (300+ journalists)
Geolocation data
Livemap with minute to minute updates
Victim list
It can be accessed here: https://t.co/s0Se94PXWF
Please share & quote tweet to help this post break out of the twitter algorithm prison.
We will keep adding the rest of the archives to the site, be patient- it is difficult work. Continue to seed the torrents provided, as that is the best way to ensure the footage remains stored in decentalized way.
God bless all those who sacrificed their lives to get this footage out, and everyone invovled in collecting/archiving it.

So evil. Never forget nor forgive, the Israelis zip tied the wrists of men, women, children and babies at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, before murdering them.

We've launched a short survey to find out what working conditions are like in the NHS during the #heatwave
How hot is your workplace? Is there working air conditioning? Is the heat affecting patient care?
Please take our survey and share with colleagues: https://t.co/ThvvEfig6A
Sending reporters to do heatwave stories to camera at the beach is a such a lazy bit of consent manufacturing. 35C does not equal the beach. Do the report on a building site where people are on the verge of passing out. Do it from a hospital ward.
He has had an emergency decompressive hemicraniectomy, left-sided, where the likely dominant brain side is damaged forever. He will probably never be able to speak again, and never be able to feel and move the right side of his body.
At his age, the reason for that is most likely a mass intracranial hemorrhage and swelling due to severe head trauma. He must have also spent a long time in a coma, hence the tracheostomy.
This is, without much room for doubt, the face of a tortured man who has barely survived an emergency procedure, which in normal circumstances would be extremely uncommon for someone his age - and whose quality of life has been reduced to almost zero forever.
