It was the middle of the night, at about 1.30am, when Norway lost to England.
Yet thousands of Norwegians went to the Palace in Oslo and celebrated with one final Viking row.
They did not riot. They did not burn cars. They did not smash bus stops or glass windows of shops.
They smiled. The laughed. They saw the positive in their performance. They celebrated their heritage. They were proud of who they have been in the past and who they are today.
Norway might be out of the World Cup 2026 but they are in our hearts.
In the last three weeks, I think we have all fallen a little bit in love with Norwegians.
Incentives aren’t complicated.
We just ignore what ours are actually doing.
We tax speeders to stop speeding and cigarettes to stop smoking, yet we tax people who work and companies that make profits and subsidize those who don’t.
Then we act shocked when we get less work, less employment, fewer successful businesses, and more and more people on welfare.
Chat Control 1 is back. Despite the European Parliament voting down the legislation twice this year, the Council of the European Union and parts of the Parliament today managed – through an urgent procedure – to extend it for another two years. The law was originally introduced as temporary legislation, so that its effectiveness could be evaluated. At the end of 2025, the European Commission itself concluded that it was not possible to determine whether the law had any measurable effect. Even so, it has now been pushed through.
Some of today's amendments could have stopped the law. And a majority of the voting MEPs wanted to do so. By a margin of 314-276, the Parliament voted to reject the proposal through these amendments. However, since it was an urgent procedure, 361 votes were required. As a result, the majority lost today and Chat Control 1 was passed. The urgent procedure was a dirty play by the Council and parts of the Parliament – it’s a procedure not meant to be used on legislation already rejected by the Parliament.
For now, Chat Control 1 will remain in effect. This means that tech companies may continue scanning communications without a warrant or suspicion.
However, the real battle is Chat Control 2. Unlike Chat Control 1, it would require all providers to scan communications, and to do so far more extensively than Chat Control 1 ever has.
@NXT4EU Traitors the whole lot of them. Politicians should be chat controlled, not the people. Only prisoners have their mail read before they receive it. Are we all prisoners?
You morally corrupt authoritarian fuckheads @Europarl_EN who have voted not to reject #chatcontrol should all be imprisoned. Keep pushing your luck. We WILL revolt if you keep furthering your disgusting agenda against the will of the citizens of Europe. We WILL not partake in your dystopian Orwellian communist nightmare.
The people who passed this should feel ashamed for what they have done.
This is a net-negative wrapped in a “it sounds nice” gift.
EU is not for their people, the citizens are pawns, close to being a social experiment for the leaders of the EU that have read the “guide” book of 1984.
The people are being deliberately lied to, emotionally manipulated to defend this to some degree, people aware of what is going on hate it.
What the EU has done is not protecting their people, it’s creating a surveillance state where every person will be treated as a suspect.
It is no longer innocent until proven guilty.
It is guilty until proven innocent.

‼️🇪🇺 A black day for freedom and civil rights in Europe.
The European Parliament has voted in favour of "chat control." The lapsed derogation that lets platforms scan private messages for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is back into force until 2028.
Parliament killed this same text 311 to 228 in March. Today it passed.
How it passed also matters, it was a democracy undermining move from The European People's Party (EPP), the largest group in Parliament, who revived the Council's text as a second-reading position, meaning it stood unless an absolute majority of all MEPs, at least 361, voted to reject or amend it.
Chat Control has been passed, even though a majority voted against.
This is because @EPPGroup used an urgent procedure that would require an absolute majority to reject it.
What a disgusting way of politics. Europeans will remember, and vote the EPP out in the next election.
