James hates how his resolve is already crumbling because of sheer exhaustion. He could already picture the pout on his wife's face, the same pout that matches their oldest daughter's.
James let out a heavy sigh, chewing on the inside of his cheek as he stubs out his cigarette on the windowsill. โ How do you know that it won't be like last time? This whole mission has gone wrong and I can't see you hurt again. โ
But, damn, did he miss her so badly.
โง
Bonnie knew James was hesitant to let her come and help him โ after the last mission.
but they had been separated and this time they wouldnโt be. She just wanted to get this op over with so her husband and the father of her children can come home to them.
โ It wonโt be like โ
โง
He missed his wife, he missed his girls and his son, he missed being at home. He was sick of this motel and this country too far away from his family. He knew damn well he's in over his head.
๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ But โโ the kids, Bon. The twins and Harlow. They need you, too. โ
โง
โง
James takes another long drag, exhaling the smoke before he speaks. โ I . . . . I could use the help. But I can't stop thinking about last time. About the whole reason why we don't run missions together now. The kids, if something goes wrong. And this op is fucked, Bon. โ
James was pacing around the dingy motel room he had himself holed up in, a cigarette in his hand. A bad habit he now only had when he was stressed. And he was way past stressed tonight.
Everything that could go wrong on this op, has gone wrong. But, he chose to do this solo.
โง
โ Are you sure you donโt want me to come help you?โ Bonnie asked @OfSoldatism. She had just placed the kids to bed and this mission had gone on longer then expected โ she was worried and maybe with her there to help. . they could both come home sooner.

โง
And now, on the phone with his wife who's offering him her help, all his stressed mind can think of is the last mission they were on together.
The mission where she ended up on the floor nearly bleeding to death. The one that left him and Harlow at her hospital side.

James was in a daze, he didn't even notice anyone showing up or Steve going to get the first-aid kit. Not until his friend spoke up again.
A shake of his head, voice raw, โ No. I don't โโ my head's all over the place, pal. I trust you with my life, and hers. You do it? โ
@hydrasprodigy โง
โ Fuck, Bon. You have to be okay. We have three babies who need their mama to come home to them. โ His voice cracks and he glances at his best friend, and back at her. He's no longer Sergeant Barnes. He's now a worried husband and father, tears brimming in his eyes.
โง
@hydrasprodigy โง
โ I'm on my way Steve. I have the files, as soon as everyone is in the jet this place can be blown to hell. โ
Then he's moving through the hallways and finally his friend and his unconscious wife are in his sightline.
โ Jesus, what the hell happened? โ
@hydrasprodigy โง
The download finishes a second after his outburst and he grabs the drive from the computer and stuffs it into his jacket pocket, zipping it shut.
Weapons raised as he moves like a bat out of hell to Steve and Bonnie's location, calling out to his friend on comms.
โง
@hydrasprodigy Smiles brightly at her and laces his fingers with hers, kissing her cheek as well once she sat down beside him.
โ Perfect doll, I talked to Steve and he's all for it, too. Now we just have to pack up the kiddos and decide when we want to go. What week do you think is best? โ
