Meet Blue, an educational AI robot created by Dr Alex Levant using @OhbotRobot

Alex has been developing this project over the past couple of years, using Ohbot in his Critical AI Studies courses at @Laurier University.

Blue is being used to help students experience and better understand AI in a different way. It can speak and answer questions, play music, and even act as a smart home device.

Blue is a really impressive example of how robotics and AI are being used in higher education 👏

Picoh and @OhbotRobot had a lot to say about the #GirlTechWM event… 🤖 🙊

It was great to be part of a day where so many school girls and teachers were asking questions, getting involved, and exploring technology with our programmable robots. 🤖

It was brilliant to see everyone’s reactions, especially the school girls, when the robots started interacting and speaking. 🤩

Moments like that are exactly why we’re focused on getting Ohbot in front of more children and young people through our school sponsorships. 🦾

Turns out @OhbotRobot is quite the networker 🤖👀

We definitely lost count of how many companies Ohbot spoke to at #GirlTechWM… but managed to grab photos with quite a few! 😁 📸

It was brilliant to see so many young girls getting involved, asking questions and excited to explore tech at the event.

Ohbot loved chatting to them all, as well as connecting with other companies, sharing ideas, and seeing how everyone engaged throughout the day.

Huge credit to the organisers for putting together such a great event 👏

How schools are using Picoh beyond computing lessons 🤖

In the classroom, Picoh can be used to support emotional expression, recognising facial cues, understanding the emotions of others, and collaborating through shared activities and discussion.

Using Scratch, pupils can programme Picoh to express emotions, talk through scenarios from school and home life, and give supportive statements and suggestions around regulating feelings.

What makes Picoh so effective is that it creates engagement straight away, while helping pupils explore important ideas in a practical, age-appropriate way.

🗣️ “Children who were less able to verbalise their current emotions, could more readily do that on Picoh.”

🗣️ “The children, from day one, were incredibly interested in the robot and were engaged immediately!”

🗣️ “It has allowed us to deliver PSHE lessons at an age appropriate level and children were in a PSHE lesson without even knowing it, which was fantastic!”
