Please pray for the repose of the soul of our Brother Fr Eric Simmons CR, who died peacefully in Christ yesterday evening. May he rest in Peace and rise in Glory.
If this breaks your heart, please seriously (and prayerfully) consider what action you can take in your local area to help those on the margins who are in the greatest need.
One thing about the Religious Life is that while some orders may appear to live permanently in a state of lockdown (enclosure), we're all very aware of the necessity of holy silliness!
Sr HF presented Lynn to @CottrellStephen at the start of the service. It's supposed to be the Prioress but Sr Jocelyn is currently isolating, so the sub-prioress steps up.
Today is the first anniversary of Sr Jocelyn's installation as Prioress. We have a tradition of the Prioress planting a tree on the anniversary, so we now have another apply tree in our orchard. Deo gratias!
After contact with Government we hear that there is no change to guidance on places of worship. Worship is the work of God - not a social gathering - and gives the strength to love and serve.
Religious life is full of surprises. Some of them are amazing and others are mundane. On Saturday it was discovering the water had gone off in the Priory, but was still on in the laundry. Over 12 months later the new building still has minor teething problems! Keeps us humble 🙂
@mrmarksteel Don't forget us nuns! Whitby has a great long tradition of Religious Communities. Hence the Synod of 664 under St Hilda, to the Benedictine Abbey which was closed courtesy of Henry VIII, and us and the St Joseph's sisters today.
