@Kaperskyguru Currently working on a power outage management system using Django, Gunicorn, MySQL on the backend ( it's really a fullstack app 😁 so JQuery, Ajax, Bootstrap on the frontend)

Prod setup would be with Docker + Nginx within a VM on an on-prem server.

Every year, I take time to check the pulse of the IT career market. Yes, what companies are looking for as they hire entry level engineers and tech workers. For 2024, I am using three words from a recent IBM recruitment message as the summary: curiosity, individuality and possibility.

IBM wrote, “Are you an IT or Computer Science graduate, ready to lead in this new era of technology and solve some of the world’s most challenging problems? Then apply for the IBM Graduate Programme and join IBM as a graduate trainee.... “ IBM summarized what they needed around those three words.

Looking at the three words, the second one - individuality - is noticeable. Notice that being good as an individual is now highly valued because increasingly AI is now our team members at work. In other words, if you have a lot of team members as AIs, the challenge now is how you will bring the specific and individual human element into the team. Sure, this is not to say that Teamwork is not important, but the message is clear: what you can deliver in a team of AIs is as valuable as what you can deliver as a team member in a world of humans.

That also underscores my point that the career of the future is not just prompt engineering  - helping machines understand humans - but how to help humans understand machines better, because overtime the machines will evolve!

One of the surprises of last year was my diving head-first into Mobile Development.

I've always wanted to make apps for use on my smartphone. That also led to a curiousity about Flutter especially since it was proclaimed as cross-platform.

Even though its UI is somewhere between mid-level ugly and monstrous, we got the app fully functional and it is currently in use by something near 100 users.

2023 pushed me far beyond my comfort zone. The projects I worked on stretched my mind in ways I wouldn't have conceived prior.

The 'tiny app' was a project I created while learning to build serverless apps with AWS Lambda.

It isn't running currently but I'm pretty sure I can recreate it from scratch if I ever need to.

I made a tiny app. It's so small, it does not need servers. It does two things.

1. Checks if the link to a website is working.
2. Records the time it takes for the website to respond when its link is clicked.

I just test deployed a serverless app which provides a service similar to https://t.co/1kXPR46E6u

It sends a request to a URL, checks if that URL is live & measures the network latency i.e time duration of response.

I began coding seriously at the age of 33.

Waking up early consistently has been the most influential habit that changed my life, long before Twitter and YouTube came into the picture.

For me, glancing at the clock at 10 am, knowing that I've already accomplished a lot, is a great sensation I'll never get used to.

Does this mean that you have to do the same?

No.

However, understanding ourselves, and recognizing our strengths and weaknesses, is key to our success.

In tech, we all have different stories. What I've learned from talking with so many people is that we can all be successful if we are persistent in pursuing our goals.

Social media can be a great support in this journey.

Twitter really changed my life.

If someone had told me four years ago that they could get a job by posting on Twitter, I would have laughed my head off.

But it's actually possible, and it's something that anyone with an internet connection can do. This is mind-blowing.

The Developers Community is the best in the world. Everyone supports each other, and we all work hard to improve each other's lives.
