Supporting the College of Nursing Sciences, Oji River
Today, I arrived in Enugu State from Lagos to visit the College of Nursing Sciences, Oji River, Enugu, following a call I received just yesterday about the school, from the Proprietor, Bishop Ikechukwu Joseph Egbuonu.
I had the privilege of interacting with the students, reminding them that they have chosen one of the world’s most noble and vital professions. Nurses remain the backbone of every effective healthcare system, and their dedication continues to save lives daily.
To support their learning environment and ensure continuity in training, I made a support of ₦10 million to assist the institution.
Afterwards, accompanied by the Bishop, I visited the General Hospital, Oji River, Enugu which was previously owned by them. It was reassuring, however, to learn that Governor Peter Mbah has handed the facility back to the original Mission owners, and I thank him for such a noble gesture and encourage his continued support to ensure the hospital is quickly rehabilitated.
That noble cause reminded me of my time as Governor of Anambra State, when we did the same, returning schools and hospitals to the voluntary agencies, who are the original founders. Many of those institutions have since grown from near collapse to becoming thriving institutions and facilities now some of the best in the country today.
I commend the Bishop, Dr Ikechukwu Joseph Egbuonu, for his interest in education and healthcare, which play a critical role in shaping ethical and competent professionals in Nigeria and in advancing human development.
My philosophy remains simple: when we invest in our people, schools, hospitals, and agricultural systems, we lay the foundation for a productive and prosperous nation. I remain committed to making modest contributions wherever possible, as we collectively work towards a Nigeria where every child can learn, every citizen can access quality healthcare, and every community can thrive.

Nigeria: Free Sunday Jackson.
Sunday is a Christian farmer who was violently attacked by an armed Fulani.
Fulani Muslims have murdered hundreds – maybe thousands – of Christian farmers in Nigeria, but Sunday defended himself.
Sunday has now been sentenced to death by hanging for his act of self-defense.
This is unjust.
Nigerian Christians must be able to defend themselves.

In pursuit of my desires and soul-searching for solutions for our country’s and continental challenges, I was in Kigali, Rwanda , over the weekend. I had several meetings, planned and some sudden with notable people in the development sector, and discussed a range of issues, especially from personal to sports and food insecurity.
Most of the comments, I had resonated well with belief for example, whenever I talk about productivity, I maintain that our productivity is low and my emphasis remains on our country moving from consumption to production.
The Former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn @HMDessalegn shared that in their dealings with the Chinese, they found that the Chinese produce 6-7 times what the Ethiopians can produce, and they decided to do something about it.
Today, he recounted: "I can comfortably say that the average Ethiopian produces 60-70% of what the Chinese can do."
At the height of my meetings, and engagements was a gracious opportunity to meet with the legendary Rwanda President @PaulKagame, with whom I had very useful discussions on things that resonate with me every day, especially what is required for Africa to move forward.
He remains committed to the management of scarce resources and serving the people faithfully, which resonates with me deeply.
Finally, I spoke at the Sherrie Silver Foundation's "The Silver Gala". While looking around the hall, I saw a continent on the rise if only we could have the right Leadership and invest in the entrepreneurial, innovative energy of our youths.
Overall, my experience in Kigali have reinforced my belief that the new Nigeria is possible and that Africa, the continent, is on the rise and unstoppable. -PO
Upon my return from my trip to Kigali, I honoured a longstanding invitation and birthday promise to @KayodeAkintemi by sitting down with him for an in-depth conversation about our dear country. I urge my fellow OBIdients and Nigerians to watch and offer corrections where necessary. Leadership is about listening and learning.

I am deeply saddened by the multiple loss of lives and disruption of activities in Maiduguri, Borno state capital which has just been hit by a devastating flood disaster.
It is heartbreaking to think about the families who have been bereaved or torn apart, the homes that have been destroyed, and the livelihoods that have been ruined.
I can only imagine the pain and suffering that the people of Maiduguri are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them, and I hope that they find the strength and resilience to get through this difficult time.
In times like these together as a nation, we must support each other. I urge the federal and state governments to do everything within their powers to provide aid and relief to those affected by this natural disaster .
We need to work together to rebuild and restore the communities that have been damaged. May God console and protect the people of Maiduguri, and may He give them the courage and hope they need to face the days ahead. -PO
Yesterday, in Benin, Edo State, I joined the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Barrister @OlumideAkpata, alongside his running mate, Alhaji Yusuf Kadiri, to rally support for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, September 21st, 2024.
Our campaign is a crucial part of our mission to engage directly with the people, sharing our vision of hope and transformation for a new Nigeria.
As I have always emphasized, it is essential that we vote for the right candidates—those who demonstrate competence, capacity, consistency, and compassion to serve.
Together, we can build a new Edo State and a Nigeria that is POssible. -PO

Let it be known to all and sundry that I, Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili shall whenever asked to sing the Nigerian National Anthem sing:
1. Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey To serve our fatherland With love and strength and faith The labour of our heroes past Shall never be in vain To serve with heart and might One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
2. Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause Guide our leader’s right Help our youth the truth to know In love and honesty to grow And living just and true Great lofty heights attain To build a nation where peace and justice reign.
This is my own National Anthem and let it be known that no one can suppress my right to dissent an obnoxious “law” that is repugnant to all that is of good conscience in Nigeria.
Whatever else is #NotMyNationalAnthem.
