This is the great disease of Laodicea. Rich, increased with goods, and in need of nothing, while Christ is outside the door knocking. A church can have lights, screens, music, branding, coffee, programs, conferences, followers, and a preacher with teeth bright enough to guide ships into harbor, and still be spiritually poor, blind, and naked. The prosperity preacher calls greed “faith.” The celebrity preacher calls cowardice “love.” The soft church calls compromise “compassion.” And the average Christian calls distraction “busy.” The labels change, but the world keeps the receipt.

The Christian is not called to decorate a dying system. He is called to pass through it as a witness. Use what God allows. Work faithfully. Provide honestly. Speak boldly. Give generously. But keep your heart out of Egypt, your knees away from mammon, your ears shut to the applause of men, and your affection set above. The world is passing away, and the lust thereof. The only sane man left is the one who looks at all the glitter, all the noise, all the salesmanship, all the religious showmanship, and says, “No thank you. My Father owns my heart.”
