For decades the dominant career playbook has been: get a CS degree or an MBA, land a corporate job, climb the ladder.

That playbook worked because the supply of skilled tradespeople was never treated as a strategic priority.

But here is what is quietly shifting...

AI is compressing the value of knowledge work that is repetitive, codifiable, and scalable.

Writing boilerplate code, producing standard reports, processing data, drafting routine documents, those are exactly the tasks AI absorbs first.

A master electrician rewiring a complex commercial building cannot be automated away by a language model.

Neither can a skilled welder, a precision plumber, or a carpenter doing detailed structural work.

The hands-on, judgment-heavy, physically present work is durable in a way that a lot of white-collar roles simply are not.

And the supply-demand gap in trades is already enormous in most developing and developed economies alike.

The irony is that trades were stigmatized as a fallback for people who "couldn't make it" into software or finance.

So young people were steered away from them for two generations.

The result is a massive skills deficit right at the moment the economy needs those skills most.

What the CEA is pointing at is not a consolation prize.

It is one of the clearest arbitrage opportunities in the labor market right now.

TROOPS OF 12 BRIGADE FOIL TERRORISTS’ ATTEMPT TO ABDUCT SCHOOL CHILDREN IN KOGI STATE

Troops of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under 2 Division Nigerian Army have foiled an attempted abduction of pupils at Iluke Community in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, thwarting the plans of terrorists who disguised themselves in military uniforms to carry out the attack.

The successful operation was conducted on 10 June 2026 following credible information provided by vigilant members of the community who alerted troops on patrol to the activities of the terrorists within the area. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops immediately mobilised and advanced to the community to prevent the criminals from achieving their objective.

On arrival, troops discovered that the terrorists had already assembled pupils of Iluke Primary School with the intention of abducting them. Without delay, the troops engaged the terrorists, compelling them to abandon their mission and flee the area. During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised while several others escaped with gunshot injuries upon the approach and engagement by the troops.

Sadly, before the arrival of troops, the terrorists had killed a teacher and a resident of the community. Their actions further underscore the criminal and inhumane nature of the terrorists who continue to target innocent civilians.

The prompt response of the troops prevented what could have been a large scale abduction of school children and undoubtedly saved many lives. The operation also reflects the commitment, vigilance and professionalism of troops of 12 Brigade in safeguarding lives and protecting vulnerable communities across the Brigade’s area of responsibility.

Troops are currently in pursuit of the fleeing bandits. Additionally, considering the interconnected nature of the community to adjoining Kwarra and Niger State, other security outfits in the neighbouring state have been intimated to block fleeing bandits. Other measures aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action, reassuring residents and preventing any further attacks have been emplaced. Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

I finished in 2006 because I studied a 4-year course. Tosin and Razaq finished in 2007 because Tosin studied a 5 year course, Razaq 4.

I didn't know Tosin in Ife. Razaq and I were close.

Now, Tosin's company, Momiepoint, has just committed N1 billion to building an innovation hub in OAU.

I can't wait for my own company, Jarus Homes, to also become big enough to be able to commit N1 billion into our alma mater alone.

Moniepoint is putting ₦3 billion into building Innovation Hubs at OAU, UNN and ABU where students can learn software engineering, AI, robotics, product design and entrepreneurship with direct industry support.

A lot of conversations about Nigeria’s digital economy focus on startups and funding, but only a few talk about the real foundation which is the talent pipeline. The engineers, designers and builders coming out of our universities.

Also important that this isn’t concentrated in Lagos. OAU, UNN and ABU gives regional spread and access across the country. Tosin Eniolorunda deserves credit for this. It’s easy to build a successful company, scale and move on, but investing back into the institutions to produce the next generation of talents is the type of leadership and long-term impact that our society needs.
