The newly restored version of Sumitra Peries’ 1978 classic "Gehenu Lamai" is screened under Cannes Classics, celebrating the poetic legacy of Sri Lanka’s pioneering woman filmmaker.

The screening at Salle Buñuel is graced by lead stars Wasanthi Chathurani, Ajith Jinadasa, Shyama Ananda & the family of the late Dr. Peries.

This Cannes selection honours Sumitra Peries’ groundbreaking focus on female narratives , a voice ahead of her time.
