Why You, As a Christian, Can Say Alhamdulillah and Call on Allah Recently, I used the term Alhamdulillah, and a commenter named John criticised me, saying that, as a follower of Yeshua, I ought not to use that term. It really breaks my heart that my people perish for lack of knowledge. Are you aware that Alhamdulillah and Hallelujah not only sound alike but also mean the same thing? Oh yes! Alhamdulillah is Arabic for Praise be to God, while Hallelujah is Hebrew for Praise God. What we ought to understand is that Arabs, Hebrews, and the majority of Ethiopians share the same Semitic origin. Not only that, Semitic languages share about 58-60% of their lexicon. So, for example, the word peace is almost identical in all languages: Arabic: Salam Amharic: Salam Hebrew: Shalom The word for house, like hundreds of other words they share, is similar in all three languages: Arabic: Bayt Amharic: Baet Hebrew: Bayit The trend continues in familial relationships. Take a word like mother: Arabic: Umm Amharic: Ema Hebrew: Ema What non-Semitic people, especially those who have latched on to Abrahamic faiths, have to understand is that every person mentioned in what we now know as the Bible, as being either a prophet, like Moses, or a counsellor to a prophet or king in Israel or Judah, like Ebed-Melech, was either of Hebrew or Habesha (modern-day Ethiopia) origin. And there is some evidence, though not definitive, that Ishmael, Abraham's son, was a progenitor of today's Arabs. We have to understand that before Islam became a mainstream religion after 610 CE, there were Arab Christians, of which a number, including Waraqah ibn Nawfal, a friend, in law and mentor of Muhammad, Salla Allahu alayhi Wasalaam, wrote letters and books and used words like Allah (Arabic for God) and Alhamdulillah, BEFORE Muhammad was born. Please fact-check me. These are not Islamic words. They are Arabic words. I have just returned from Morocco, and some of you saw my video at a church there that Arab Christians frequent. They call God Allah! And I know many of you are now familiar with the Bible in European languages such as English, French, and Spanish. However, long before the Hebrew Bible was translated into these languages, it was first translated into Arabic. Waraqah himself was a Bible translator. Also, there is a 1,300-year-old Arabic Bible at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. It would surprise you to note that in these books, the word for God is Allah. I do understand the truism that "There is no zealot like a convert", but please stop hating others because they call God using a SLIGHTLY different word than you do. What is my point? It is that Arabs, Hebrews, and Habesha people are more connected religiously, linguistically, and historically than you and I, who have bought into any of the Abrahamic religions they profess, and to go ahead and hate each other based on the minute differences amongst these people is to attempt to be more Semitic than a Semite. I am not a jack-of-all-trades. I follow Yeshua, the Jewish Rabbi, and if you FORCE me to write my religion on a form, it will be Orthodox Christianity. However, if you truly love Abraham, you will love all of his children, not just one third of them!
