Most dealers would have been willing to knock that extra off anyway if you were a serious buyer.

For importers and dealers.

That extra adds up.

If you import 20 cars a year at an average of 200k saved on duties per year, you get almost 3m extra.

So not nothing.

There's is an effective 6% rate reduction.

What does this mean for you as a customer.

It means if you were ever a good negotiator, most dealers would be willing to sell you a car in that range any way. A car that landed for 10m can now land for 9.8m thereabout.

So the new calculation becomes

- FCS 4%
- Import duty 20%
- NAU 5% or 10% depending on engine capacity. *this is the line item impacted by the change*
- SUR 7%
- ETL 0.5%
- VAT 7.5%
- Green tax 4%

Total duties now 48% or 44% on cars with smaller engines.

Following the reduction, importer will now pay a lower NAU of either 5% or 10% depending on engine capacity.

A green tax of 4% is coming into effect depending on engine capacity. Car 2L engines and above which is like almost every V6 sedan and SUV will pay a green tax.

Before the reduction, here's what importers paid.

- FCS 4%
- Import duty 20%
- NAU 15% or 20% depending on engine capacity.
- SUR 7%
- ETL 0.5%
- VAT 7.5%

Total 49-54%.
