Got bored and looked up every Purdue coach's first season and their record when they left Purdue. It's a univariate analysis fwiw, but generally, if you aren't near .500 your first season, you probably aren't going to do well...
HAIL PURDUE!
@BoilerInTexas Not my argument. He was only at Illinois 2 years so it's not like he recruited their seniors or juniors that played against us last year.
Further, should be easier nowadays since Purdue's in a P5 conference and transfers are plentiful, not like it was a decade ago.
HAIL PURDUE!
@PurdueBurner@papkoontz I did some research on it, it's in a previous tweet of mine. Painter has lost to a double digit seed in the tourney 5 times. IU has a team has only done it 5 times, so the 8+ times number is incorrect.
@BoilerInTexas This is how the NFL and college football determine their champion. Coaches are regularly fired for under performing in the postseason in the NFL (not saying Painter should be fired, just pointing it out).
Counted every time a Big Ten team lost to a double digit seed in the NCAA Tourney, if Matt Painter was a school, he'd be tied for third in the conference. First Four included in count.
Note: This is the entire history for each school.
HAIL PURDUE!
Painter apologists:
5 years ago: We keep losing to 1 seeds, we just need the bracket to open up.
Last year: "they didn't play like a 15 seed"
Today: "this one's on the players"
Not calling on Painter to be fired, just stating facts.
HAIL PURDUE!
I'm surprised that the coach who has lost to:
an 11 seed
a 12 seed
a 13 seed &
a 15 seed in the last 15 years would lose to a 16 seed.
Completely shocked.
HAIL PURDUE!
@NotPurdueSports Maybe, kind of goes both ways, we should've won the conference last year with a lottery pick, but went trophy-less instead. Then we lost to a 15 seed in the tourney that got blown out in the next round.
HAIL PURDUE!
@BeneathThePaint Eh... Idk if we want to look forward to the NCAA Tourney, in his last 3 games against double digit seeds, Painter is 1-2... Including a loss to a 15 seed.
