How many russian regions will need to be demilitarised and placed under some form of international mandate in order to put a stop to future wars? I don't think there needs to be peace keeping troops in Moscow or St Petersburg, only in the border regions. #RussiaInvadedUkraine
I resigned as U.S. Ambassador Ukraine when Trump kept siding with Putin over our democratic partner. Now, my successor is doing the same.
I knew I had to speak out and run for office because siding with dictators is just not who we are.
Let me be precise about what is happening here.
Trump keeps saying “NATO wasn’t there when we needed them.” He says it like a grievance. He will keep saying it. Expect it at every rally between now and 2028.
Understand what he is actually doing. He is not venting. He is building a case.
Because he knows what Russia is planning for the Baltic states, and he is pre-loading the public argument for why Article 5 does not apply when that moment arrives.
“We asked, they refused.” That is the exit ramp. Simple. Memorable. Wrong, but effective.
Article 5 covers armed attacks against members in Europe or North America. It was never designed to cover offensive wars the United States chooses to launch in the Middle East.
Article 6 makes this explicit. The Americans insisted on that language in 1949 precisely so they could not be dragged into Europe’s colonial wars.
Trump is now furious at a clause his predecessors wrote.
He called allies cowards. He told the United Kingdom to “build up some delayed courage.” He threatened France after Paris refused airspace for weapons bound for Israel. None of this is anger. It is choreography.
NATO allies had no legal or treaty obligation to join this war. The United States was not the victim of an attack. It was the instigator. What Trump is calling betrayal is allies reading the actual document.
Now to the harder question: can NATO hold without Washington?
Yes.
European members have every incentive to maintain the alliance, even in radically different form. Germany’s chief of defence has already ordered the military to be fully equipped by 2029, when Russian forces may have reconstituted sufficiently to test the eastern flank. That clock is running regardless of what happens in Washington.
European leaders have been forced to confront the need for a security architecture that can stand without the American pillar. That conversation was theoretical eighteen months ago. Iran made it operational.
The alliance survived the Suez crisis, when the United States humiliated Britain and France. It will survive this.

Its getting more tense in 🇷🇺. And the deteriorating economic conditions should be added to this. The Kremlin isn’t losing control, as of yet, but it’s becoming more difficult. The trajectory looks clear.
Moscow supports Orban because he sabotages the European Union, blocks sanctions and money for Ukraine.
Ergo, he who supports Orban, helps Moscow.
It really is that simple.
Bob Mueller was one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI, transforming the bureau after 9/11 and saving countless lives. But it was his relentless commitment to the rule of law and his unwavering belief in our bedrock values that made him one of the most respected public servants of our time. Michelle and I send our condolences to Bob’s family, and everyone who knew and admired him.
Bulgaria withdraws from Trump’s corruption scheme called Board of Peace.
Last year, the government of PM Zhelyazkov joined the Board days before collapsing amid massive anti-corruption protests. The protests were in fact caused by the same kind of corruption that led the government to curry favor with Trump. There’s a politician, the oligarch Peevski, who’s well known for his pervasive influence in Bulgarian politics and massive corruption, to the point that he’s sanctioned by the US and the UK. The EU has not done anything about it, which is part of the problem. The guy not only steals EU money, but is also. Kremlin conduit, like Orbán (whose government is the only other EU member to join that Board). Obviously, bribing Trump with $1 billion of Bulgarian taxpayer money is a great deal for Peevski to be taken off the sanctions list.
The current government withdrew Bulgaria and indirectly cited this as the reason. The best way to do it would be to argue before the Constitutional Court so as to get a pretext that could help avoid Trump’s tantrum, which the toddler is sure to throw. The fact that everyone had to walk on eggshells around this toddler is just as obnoxious that another EU member could be so thoroughly corrupt as to rival Hungary.
Ryssland kommer introducera en lag som medger fritagning av fängslade medborgare utomlands. På så sätt kan man legalisera ryska räder mot t ex frihetsberövade fartygsbesättningar.

There are many stupid takes in foreign policy and national security; this is a stupid take that requires a response. Of all the alliances to call out for an “audit” or a “reverse course,” the Philippines and South Korea are two of America’s most important and high return relationships. Both are invaluable to American maritime and grand strategy. The Philippines is on the front lines defending against China’s maritime insurgency that seeks to overturn the freedom of the sea, a foundational US national interest since the earliest days of the republic. South Korea is the free world’s leading shipbuilding power and an indispensable partner in the American maritime renaissance. Both countries are making historic investments in their military and industrial capacity—and in ours. Both countries bestride key strategic terrain in the defense of Taiwan and Japan. If anything, these relationships have only increased in value. To suggest otherwise is either laughable or malicious and deserves ridicule.
Given the current US presidential administration's preference for real estate: Could Königsberg (a.k.a. Kaliningrad) become a US territory as part of Russia paying for all the damage caused in their full scale invasion of Ukraine? Surely Ukraine should not be paying anything.

Will there be a federal Russia after they've lost the war in Ukraine? Will autonomous republics etc break ⛓️💥 away and build a future free of the Kremlin? Or will Beijing for geopolitical reasons back a puppet regime in Moscow in order to keep a modern Russia from developing.
I call on the outgoing prime minister to immediately stop spreading fear. I urge him not to attempt to instill fear in our fellow Hungarians for cynical campaign purposes.
If this were not a cheap, pre-planned campaign tactic but a real danger, @PM_ViktorOrban — as the responsible head of government — would long ago have invited me, as leader of the largest opposition party, for a briefing so that we could take joint action to protect our homeland and its security, especially if allied assistance were required.
I call on Viktor Orbán: if he has any credible information about a threat to Hungary’s national security, he should not communicate through social media or propaganda channels, but should instead immediately turn to NATO and request the activation of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty - just as Poland did in September 2025.
This article allows a member state to bring a matter before the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s principal political decision-making body. Consultations are then held to determine whether a member state’s territorial integrity, political independence, or security is under threat.
Viktor Orbán still has 44 days left as prime minister, but in reality he is no longer governing. Each day he sinks deeper into lies, incitement, and threats against his fellow citizens.
Does anyone truly believe that Ukraine — which has been at war with Russia for four years and is seeking to join NATO — would now threaten NATO?
Under a TISZA government, there will once again be order, peace, and security in Hungary. The government will not frighten its own citizens, but will act when necessary and unite the nation.

Statement by Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom
As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise ”Arctic Endurance” conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone.
We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland. Building on the process begun last week, we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind.
Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. We will continue to stand united and coordinated in our response. We are committed to upholding our sovereignty.

Sweden 🇸🇪 incl today 🇫🇮🇦🇽 broke off (1521). Then in the Napoleonic Wars Sweden broke away Norway from Denmark (1814). And with the 2nd World War Iceland gained independence (1944). Now the Kingdom of Denmark has only three parts, Denmark 🇩🇰, Greenland 🇬🇱 and the Faroe Isles 🇫🇴.
Fun fact: At the time of US 🇺🇲independence (1776) Greenland had been part of the Danish 🇩🇰 Realm for approx 400 years already. Legally formed with the Kalmar union (1397), which bound together what is today 🇩🇰🇳🇴🇸🇪🇫🇮🇦🇽🇮🇸🇬🇱🇫🇴.
