Back from bank holiday weekend in Northumberland and a long-awaited UK lifer with the South Anston Dotterel that confidently stayed put long enough to wait for me. Hoping the preview of these images makes it look like there are two looking at each other. @BirdDoncaster
We had a wonderful day at Spurn yesterday. 80ish species including American Golden Plover, Arctic Skua, Little Stint, Pied Flycatcher, Pintail and Caspian Gull 🙂
30 June 2022: Turkestan Shrike and bonus Black-browed Albatross with @otleybirder.
Today: we get Black-winged Pratincole (my first of the family in Britain) and a bonus Caspian Tern. Looking forward to 2026 already. @BirdDoncaster
Probably the best I could manage of the very mobile Whiskered Tern at Woodhall Spa earlier this afternoon, but a most welcome British tick (313). The Bee Orchids were somewhat easier to photograph. @LincsWildlife
Burying the pinnacle of record shots in the comments: that blob in the middle is a screenshot from a very shaky handheld phone scoped video, at 60x zoom, of a Bridled Tern.
Finally saw the Coquet Bridled Tern this afternoon after five attempts in 24 hours - probably my bird of the year so far in the circumstances (location, effort, quality of the final scope views). Here’s some photos from attempt 4, AKA the 2pm Puffin Cruise. @NTBirdClub
Started with dolphins off Coquet Island. Ended watching the Aurora from the same spot. 83 species in the Amble/Warkworth area in between. I’d say that was one of my better days here. @NTBirdClub
@rachel_lennard@Laziobirder Are they Western or Eastern Black-eared Wheatear there? Looks like you’re at least vaguely near the dividing line between them.
