Mine and Stuart McGhee's article on child maintenance where there is shared care is now out at last. I hope at the very least you find it thought provoking - I suspect a test case is not far off and may be lurking out there even now: https://t.co/TIDZizSZ2Q @fr_journal
@ImogenRobins1 @hjbrander Mine too. I was right at the front at their concert at the Royal Albert Hall on New Years Eve 1986 - leather bracelets on my wrist.
"I have to convict you... You should feel guilty for nothing." A truly extraordinary summation from Judge Wilkinson in this Just Stop Oil case https://t.co/Hxy3OYaU3l
The huge rises in yields on Govt Bonds in the last few days/weeks may mean significant falls in the CEVs of private sector defined benefit pensions. If you are about to implement a pension share on one of these, it is seriously worth thinking about requesting an up to date CEV.
2/2 The graph below shows what has happened to CEVs before the recent change in gilt yields. In essence, reliance on CEVs which are only 3 months historic may be unsafe. We will be issuing a more detailed briefing very shortly.
1/1 There is a direct & inverse correlation between gilt yields and CEVs for DB schemes. When Gilt yields go up CEVs go down. Recently we have seen significant increases in gilt yields & if these prevail there will be significant & rapid falls in CEVs.
Apropos of my earlier tweet about CEVs in DB schemes falling significantly and rapidly (exacerbated by recent gilt yield increases) CEV for private sector DB scheme in June 2022 was £239k, now £167k - reduction in 4 months of 30%
Today, criminal barristers begin indefinite strike action, in response to years of government cuts to legal aid and defunding of the criminal justice system.
Here is a post I wrote giving the truth behind the government spin: https://t.co/dYMoimHDiC
Sarah is a justice minister.
An independent report told her to urgently increase legal aid to stem the exodus of criminal barristers, whose income has been cut by 28%.
Sarah ignored the report.
When juniors on less than min wage now take action, she calls them “irresponsible”.
If you read one thing this year, please let it be this post by @Joanna__Hardy. It is without a shadow of the doubt the best thing that's ever appeared on this blog. It is just stupendously, heartbreakingly, achingly brilliant.

Gentle reminder for the hard of thinking:
Lawyers have no power to “block” anything. Literally no power at all.
All they do is present a person’s case to a court.
And a court has no power to “block” anything that the government does, unless the government has broken the law.
"He" got nothing except a whole life tariff.
There were 4,300 pages of evidence.
Several conferences. 5 court appearances.
Experts to be paid.

He changed his plea to guilty, after legal advice, which prevented an agonising trial, & saved hundreds of thousands of pounds.
