He's a member of the Peter Thiel fellowship and last year he got $250,000 to launch the startup in Lagos.

He's not Nigerian. Has no ties with Nigeria. He's in Nigeria purely for business and if he wasn't running the startup he would be a 200L student at Berkeley University in the U.S.

The Thiel fellowship is a body created by Peter Thiel, former investor at PayPal and Facebook's first investor.

The fellowship is strictly for people under 23 and people who are admitted as members are give $250,000 to build any startup of their choice.

On the condition:

You must drop out from school and chase that business.

Swoop isn't just a food delivery business, they have big plans to expand into already tested and expanding markets such as Fintech and Payments.

Stories and news like this are not stuff I like to share. It exhausts me. Stresses me out. I know many legit African startup founders hawking their startups on their heads and looking for the leanest funding.

Even real young business owners are looking for funding.

But they haven't been lucky.

@Crypto_Diet Instead of paying 307k, I would consider employing a fresh NCE graduate to teach my child at home from 8am to 2pm (depending on when I return from work) and pay about ₦60,000 monthly. I believe the outcome could even be better than spending such a large amount at that stage
