On this day in 2006 Charlotte 49er football was born at a Hickory Tavern on Harris Blvd.

Don’t believe the stories. It wasn’t a big donor that made it happen and it sure as hell was not AD Judy Rose who actively attempted to undercut us. It was handful of then young alumni and students that believed we could make a difference.

We can and we did. The Charlotte Football Initiative is where it all started.

With all of that said - if I had known where college sports were headed not sure I would have been such an advocate for adding it.

Lou Gehrig discussed Babe Ruth's called shot on an NBC radio broadcast on October 6, 1932, only five days after the World Series game at Wrigley.

The recording then went unheard for roughly 88 years before author Dan Joseph surfaced it in 2020.

It is the only known audio of Gehrig discussing the called shot.

That combination of timing and rediscovery makes the recording unusually valuable evidence in one of baseball's oldest debates.

No Secret Service Protective Detail would EVER have allowed Donald Trump to stop on stage to throw his fist in the air and chant "Fight, fight, fight!" in a legitimate assassination attempt.
