Chief Minister today laid the foundation stones for the 2.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant at Chattabal and the augmentation of the 17.08 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant at Brarinambal, Srinagar. These key projects will strengthen the city's wastewater treatment infrastructure, improve sanitation, safeguard water bodies and support a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Srinagar.

Chief Minister attended the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi today.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted Jammu & Kashmir’s development priorities, including infrastructure, employment generation, tourism, connectivity and sustainable economic growth. He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to people-centric governance, inclusive development and improving the quality of life of citizens across J&K.

Following on from my meeting with Defence Minister @rajnathsingh Sb, I met with Civil Aviation minister @RamMNK to discuss the proposed closure of Srinagar airport in October. We are working on possible alternatives to minimise the disruption & maintain a basic flight schedule as was done in the past when the airport closed for similar reasons in 1998 & 2010.

Chief Minister met Hon’ble Union Minister for Civil Aviation Shri @RamMNK and raised concerns regarding the proposed closure of Srinagar Airport from 1-16 October for maintenance works.

Emphasising the importance of uninterrupted air connectivity to the Valley during the peak tourism season, he urged that the maintenance schedule be reviewed and, if feasible, shortened, phased, or shifted to a leaner travel window. The Chief Minister also suggested operating a limited number of civilian flights from Awantipora Air Base during the closure period to ensure continued connectivity for residents, tourists and businesses.

In a significant move to enhance regional connectivity, Minister for Railways, Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw , met with the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, @OmarAbdullah, today to discuss ongoing and future railway projects aimed at accelerating economic growth in the J&K region.

During the high-level meeting, a landmark decision was reached to introduce a commercial stoppage for the prestigious Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag. This strategic halt will significantly benefit commuters, tourists, and traders, providing a faster and more reliable transport link to one of Kashmir’s most prominent economic and cultural hubs.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep appreciation for the Indian Railways' transformative initiatives in J&K. He highlighted that the Vande Bharat service has fundamentally redefined travel between Jammu and Srinagar, cutting down travel time and offering world-class comfort to residents and visitors alike.

Beyond passenger movement, the Chief Minister underscored the growing, vital role of the expanded rail network in boosting J&K’s local economy. The seamless and robust movement of essential freight—particularly the region's famous fruits like Cherry, Apple and cement—through the railway network has drastically optimized logistics, reduced transit costs, and opened up larger markets for local farmers and industrialists.

Speaking on the partnership, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reiterated the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasized that the introduction of the Anantnag stoppage reflects the government's approach of listening to local aspirations and tailoring infrastructure to serve the people effectively.

I accompanied Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister @Surinderch55 on a visit to various areas of Zadibal constituency to review the arrangements for Muharram.

We visited Astan Mir Shams-ud-Din Iraqi, Zadibal; Imam Bara Zadibal; Gulshan Bagh Imam Bara; Soura Chowk; Bagwanpora Imam Bara; and Nawab Bagh Imambara.

During the visit, the arrangements were reviewed in detail, and the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister issued directions to ensure that all necessary facilities and arrangements are put in place well in time.

JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah visited Baba Nagri, Wangath, and paid obeisance at the revered shrine following the annual Urs of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA), which concluded yesterday.

On the occasion, Sajjad Nasheen of Dargah Baba Nagri, & Hon'ble Lok Sabha MP Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, Hon'ble MLA Pampore Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, and Hon'ble MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali were also present.

The 130th annual Urs witnessed a large participation of devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir as well as other parts of the country.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah offered Fateha Khawani at the shrine and highlighted the immense contributions of revered saints like Hazrat Baba Larvi Sahib (RA) in spreading Islamic teachings. He noted that people from different parts of the country visit the shrine to pay their respects.

It was a pleasure to join @nitin_gadkari Sb for the breakthrough blast at the #zojilatunnel site marking a major milestone in the completion of this project. When finally completed this tunnel will change the lives of people, especially in the UT of Ladakh.
