The #OMDTZ team is in Geita Town Council, training local mappers to collect key drainage data, including culverts, ditches, and drain networks.
By engaging communities in the #datacollection process, this initiative builds local capacity and improves sanitation infrastructure.
Disaster recovery is costly. But preparedness, when driven by communities, is powerful and priceless.
In Mnyamani, Tanzania, we saw how putting people at the center of disaster prep made response faster, smarter, & trusted.

The app helps communities identify every object, waste type, material (plastic, glass, etc.), and even the brand of discarded items! By using this technology, actionable data could be generated to support cleanups and inform better waste management policies. #data#Solidwaste
As part of OMDTZ’s commitment to empowering youth, this initiative will equip over 98% of participating youth in both regions. Through a two-month paid opportunity, they will gain valuable career skills, enhancing their professional growth and impact in their communities.
We are preparing to launch the Climate Action Plan development project in Bukoba and Geita, which will focus on collecting #wastemanagement data.
This initiative will empower youth with hands-on skills in open mapping, GIS, and community engagement to drive climate resilience.
