PRESS RELEASE
*ONDO POLICE CONDEMN MOB ATTACK IN ALA , RESCUE TWO SUSPECTS FROM LYNCHING*
_…14 Suspects Arrested As normalcy restored_
The Ondo State Police Command has condemned a violent mob attack in Ala, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, following an attempt by an angry crowd to take the law into its own hands over the suspected murder of a farmer.
The incident followed the killing of one Rasheed Hassan, a farmer, whose death was reported to the police on October 24, 2026, from General Camp in the Government Reserve area. Upon receiving the report, police operatives visited the scene and recovered the victim’s body.
Preliminary observations revealed deep cuts to the victim’s head and other parts of his body, while his belongings were reportedly missing. Investigations immediately commenced to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
In connection with the incident, the Ala Youth President reportedly arrested two suspects on October 26, 2026. While conveying the suspects to the police station for necessary action, he was confronted by an angry mob demanding that the suspects be handed over for extrajudicial killing.
He subsequently sought refuge at the Ala Divisional Police Headquarters with the suspects. However, the mob pursued them and launched an attack on the police facility.
The mob reportedly became increasingly violent, throwing stones and other dangerous objects at the station while resisting efforts by police rescue teams to gain access to the area.
In response to the escalating violence, tactical and other rescue teams were deployed to restore order and protect lives. At about 0145 hours on October 27, 2026, police operatives successfully rescued the two suspects from the mob.
However, the patrol team conveying the suspects back to Akure came under attack. During the incident, two police officers sustained gunshot injuries from pellets allegedly fired from a youth pump-action firearm. The injured officers were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Following the attack, operatives of the Command arrested Fourteen (14) suspects in connection with the assault on police officers and the attack on the police facility and rescue team. Investigations are ongoing to establish the individual roles of those arrested and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
The Command has maintained tactical deployment in the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order. Normalcy has since returned to the community, while security monitoring continues.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, condemned the attack on police officers and the police facility, describing mob action and attempts to obstruct lawful police operations as unacceptable.
He reiterated that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of the gravity of any alleged crime. He warned that the Command would not tolerate attacks on police facilities, assaults on officers or any attempt to undermine lawful police operations.
The Commissioner of Police further assured residents that the circumstances surrounding the farmer’s death and the violence that followed were being thoroughly investigated. He emphasised that all those found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Members of the public are urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigations.
The Command also appealed to community leaders and youth groups to discourage mob action and encourage residents to allow the criminal justice system to take its course.

In line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to promote professional policing, respect for human rights and accountability in the discharge of police duties, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and maintaining the highest standards of discipline among personnel.
The CP gave the directive during a two-day strategic interactive session organised for tactical commanders, operational heads, and patrol and guard officers and men deployed on the roads. The sessions were held at the Command Headquarters and the Police Officers’ Mess, Akure, respectively.
The first day of the session, held on Wednesday, 21st October 2026, was dedicated to tactical commanders and operational heads. The engagement focused on supervisory responsibilities, operational discipline, accountability, professional ethics and the effective implementation of the Inspector-General of Police’s directives across the Command.
Addressing tactical commanders and supervisory officers, the CP emphasised that discipline must begin with leadership. He urged commanders to lead by example, conduct regular briefings and lectures for their personnel, monitor their conduct in the field and promptly address any behaviour inconsistent with the standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police also emphasized the need for strict compliance with the Nigeria Police Force’s social media policy. He cautioned officers against the unauthorised sharing of official information, operational details, photographs, videos or other sensitive materials on social media platforms. He further reminded personnel that their online activities must reflect discipline, professionalism and respect for the Force’s regulations.
The second day, held on Thursday, 22nd October 2026, was dedicated to patrol and guard officers and men deployed on the roads, drawn from the Rapid Response Squad, Anti-Crime Patrol, Safer Highway Patrol and divisions across the state. The engagement focused on their conduct during patrol duties, interactions with members of the public, enforcement of the law and the need to maintain professionalism while carrying out routine security operations.

He warned that the uniform must never be used as an instrument of intimidation, oppression or personal advantage. He further declared that harassment, extortion, unlawful detention, intimidation, abuse of power and other acts capable of undermining public confidence in the Police would not be tolerated.
CP Felix Ohagwu particularly charged patrol and guard officers operating on the roads to remain courteous, vigilant and professional at all times.
