NEW: I put myself in the role of John Spytek and projected how the full Raiders’ draft could go.
Fernando Mendoza gets a top target with an early pick in my scenario, and the team moves up for a premium defensive addition.

News: I’m joining @TheAthletic as a staff writer covering the Raiders.
Working for The Athletic was a career goal, and earning this opportunity is surreal. Thank you to all who helped make this dream a reality.
My first day is Monday. Raider Nation, I can’t wait to get to work!

Personal news: Today is my last day at the Houston Chronicle.
I’m so appreciative of my time in Houston. It was awesome covering the Texans over the last two seasons and also helping on Rockets, Astros and more.
I’m could not be more excited to share my next step soon!
@knbrmurph He’s the best. Such a unique voice covering sports. And while he covered everything from the ridiculous to the profound with humor, he never shied away from tackling controversial issues. He will definitely be missed.
