#Technology: The @RwandaGov has approved plans to establish a National Artificial Intelligence Agency that will spearhead the development, innovation, adoption, investment, and governance of artificial intelligence technologies to support the country's digital transformation and economic growth.
The decision was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by @PaulKagame at @UrugwiroVillage on June 8.
The new agency is expected to coordinate Rwanda’s AI agenda, promote innovation and investment in the sector, and ensure the responsible use and governance of AI across various industries and public services.
#Aeronautics: @RwandaSpace has joined the African Navigation Augmentation (ANGA) programme, a continental initiative aimed at improving satellite-based navigation across Africa, according to @FactsOnRwanda
1. Rwanda will host an ANGA Mission Control Centre in #Kigali, helping process #GPS and #Galileo navigation data and generate correction signals.
2. The programme is expected to improve positioning accuracy, enhance aviation safety and aircraft landing systems, and support sectors such as agriculture, transport, mapping, and disaster management.
3. Rwanda’s participation strengthens its role as a regional hub for space and satellite technologies and contributes to Africa’s ambition of building a sovereign and integrated satellite navigation system by 2030.
#Kwibuka32: A memorial dedicated to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in #Mons, in #Belgium was vandalized after unidentified individuals removed symbols and inscriptions identifying it as a genocide memorial.
The incident marks the second attack on a Genocide against the Tutsi memorial in #Europe in recent months, raising concerns about a troubling pattern of vandalism targeting sites of remembrance.
Members of the Rwandan community have condemned the act, describing it as a possible expression of genocide denial and a serious affront to the memory of the victims.
Local authorities and police have been informed, and investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
#Kivu: The AFC/M23 coalition has appointed a full set of local administrators for the areas it controls in #SouthKivuProvince, including the city of #Bukavu and several territories.
AFC/M23 leader @CNangaa said the appointments were necessary because many of the areas had been without formally designated administrators for more than a year. It's effective on June 6.
Kyalangalilwa Mulondani Nicolas was appointed mayor of #Bukavu, the provincial capital, with Nyota Luandja Celine serving as deputy mayor.
The coalition also appointed new leaders for the territories of #Idjwi, #Kabare and #Kalehe, as well as the town of #Minova, alongside their respective deputies.
New municipal administrators were named for #Bagira, #Ibanda and #Kadutu, the three communes that make up #Bukavu, while #Panzi and #Kasha were left without new appointments.
According to #Nangaa, the move is intended to strengthen local governance and administration in areas controlled by AFC/M23 after more than a year without officially appointed local authorities.
