This evening, the lobby of Littell Hall was transformed into a typical frat house complete with low lighting, loud music and mocktails as ResLife staff presented a Fatal Vision program with UPD. Lieutenant Naughton, Officer Ouimet, & Officer McGrady were in attendance.

On November 5, 2025, Lieutenant Richard C. Sass was promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Sass has been a dedicated law enforcement professional since 2006.

No overnight parking from 2AM-6AM begins tonight (November 1) in most commuter and employee lots on campus. This is in effect for snow removal purposes during the winter months (through March 31). Please be aware of signage when parking on campus overnight.

Officers were at Tobey Hall tonight for a “drunk goggles” program! UPD spoke with students about the dangers of drinking and driving as well as put them through field sobriety tests to show how impairment can affect their motor skills.

This past week, five of our members completed the Instructor Development Course which has prepared them for teaching general topics in a police academy setting. Other agencies in attendance include the New York State Inspector General’s Office and Co-Op City Police Department.

This past week, Officers Hogan, Alvarez, and Keating completed the Police Mountain Bike School at SUNY Cortland. These members join our existing bike unit, which is utilized for patrol and special events 🚴🚨

The SUNY Oneonta Law Enforcement Academy recently hosted the Crisis Response and Intervention Training which is designed to prepare police officers in their response and de-escalation involving people experiencing crises related to behavioral health conditions.

UPD stood by for the approximate 3,000 people who came to campus to view the solar eclipse yesterday afternoon 🌑☀️

On Sunday, officers participated in an alcohol awareness program for students where they discussed the dangers of alcohol and drug consumption. Students played Mario Kart and went through field sobriety tests utilizing “drunk goggles”.

Yesterday members of UPD spoke with prospective students and their families at Open House about the services that we provide on campus. We also provided parking and traffic control for the event.🅾️
