Mi nombre es Selva Alvarez, tengo 35 años, vivo en Colombia y soy Científica de Datos 📊. Hoy no les escribo solo como una paciente con cáncer gástrico avanzado (Estadio IV) 🎗️, sino como alguien que acaba de encontrar un dato científico único en su propio cuerpo que podría cambiarlo todo 🧬.

Ayer, 21 de mayo de 2026, mi reporte de patología reveló algo extraordinario y muy escaso en el mundo: mi tumor dio POSITIVO para una proteína llamada CLAUDINA 18.2 🔬.

Para explicarlo de forma sencilla: la Claudina 18.2 es como una "cerradura" 🔐 muy rara que solo tienen algunos tumores en el mundo. La ciencia médica ya inventó una "llave" 🔑 exacta para esa cerradura (un medicamento avanzado llamado Zolbetuximab o Vyloy), que es capaz de atacar directamente las células enfermas sin destruir el resto del cuerpo 🎯.

El problema es que este medicamento no es comercial en Colombia 🇨🇴. Mi oncólogo me confirmó que mi única oportunidad real de acceder a esta "llave" es que una farmacéutica o un centro de investigación me reciba en un Ensayo Clínico Nacional o Internacional o en un programa de acceso expandido ✈️.

Al ser un perfil de paciente tan escaso y específico en el planeta, sé que hay laboratorios y científicos en el mundo buscando activamente a personas como yo para sus estudios de medicina de precisión 🩺.

Quiero que el mundo sepa que estoy lista 💪: mis órganos vitales (hígado y riñones) están completamente sanos, fuertes y funcionando a la perfección, listos para resistir el tratamiento 🫁. Tengo la juventud, la fuerza biológica y la determinación absoluta de pelear por mi vida y aportar a la ciencia 🦾.

“Cemitas” and a Cathedral - Tastes of Puebla
Cemitas are the beloved local street food that locals and visitors rave about ….especially for the crunchy-yet-soft bread. The “sandwich” of Puebla.
I’m a tourist, and I am enjoying it, given that: some mini Cemitas (three different kinds to try), and a view of the Cathedral is pretty top notch for this hungry wandering architect. I’m not “on the street” having these Cemitas, but I have to say……they were so good. I have eaten Cemitas everyday since I arrived in the City, and I am not stopping now. Sooooo good!!!!!
The Bread is The Star of the Show
The sandwich gets its name from the cemita roll itself—a round, egg-enriched bun with a distinctive volcano-like shape (slightly domed or bumpy on top). Key features:
- Crispy, golden crust (sometimes achieved with a light sugar-cornstarch slurry before baking).
- Soft, fluffy interior.
- Topped generously with sesame seeds.

It is truly fantastic. Just another piece of this wondrous whole of Puebla.

Shine a Light on Mexico - Backstage Pass to Puebla -
Growing up in the USA, they don’t shine a light on Mexico. In fact they keep it dark, and mysterious, almost off limits. One has to come to Mexico to see into it…..to shine a light on it. What you realize is that Mexico is not what the general USA thinks it is, not what it is “told” it is. Mexico is a shining country with immense history, incredible proud people, and a Golden next door neighbor to the USA. Come down and check it out for yourself, you will be surprised. I am.

Pictures are of the great Cathedral in Puebla, but my version of seeing a Cathedral. Everyone goes to the front of places…..and I go to the back. I go to the little spots all around the place. I rub my hands on the thick walls and think about the hands that made it 400 years ago. I sit in little spots that no one sits, but someone has been sitting there since it was built. I stand at the back door, and feel the weight of time.

Puebla, Mexico - A City Spread Over Time
From the modern, to the past, the City of Puebla is one of the most intriguing and beautiful cities I have ever been in. A mix of ancient history, recent history, the present, and the future…..all wrapped up in the buildings, the wonderful streets, and the people. This City does not seem to be waiting around fort the rest of the world to notice Her, this City is confident and proud. This City is Beautiful. Walking on stones of generations of footsteps, and the City of Puebla reminding me of my small place in it all.

Well, we actually did it. We digitized scent. A fresh summer plum was the first fruit and scent to be fully digitized and reprinted with no human intervention. It smells great.

Holy moly, I’m still processing the magnitude of what we’ve done. And yet, it feels like as we cross this finish line we are instantly at a new starting line. I’ll have more to share about what’s in store that we’re building on top of this.
