Looking forward to your presentation @PhotonicsCo Let's change the status quo: One-third of food is still being wasted! We need to half that before 2030! #SDG123#foodwaste
.@FAO webinar on Food loss and waste reduction at wholesale and retail stage, including @OneThirdTeam about shelf life prediction of fresh produce. Digitizing quality predictions along the food chain: https://t.co/jZs6mvrHYi
🏆 OneThird has won the #smartagrifoodindustry Startup Awards! Congratulations @PhotonicsCo and the rest of the team of this #startup that provides actionable insights to optimize supply chain decisions and prevent #foodwaste by combining #opticalsensors, harvest data & analytics
We're so excited to let you know we've added two great investors to our family! Together we're stronger to fight the food waste battle! #SDG123 https://t.co/uAczhXyLSG
"Our ambition is to meet Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, and that is halving food waste in the Netherlands within nine years from now." - @ToineTimmermans, Managing Director, Food Waste Free United #GFSI21
It's the year of fruits and vegetables. We all know how important these are for our nutrition. But do we also realize how much is lost between grower and consumer? on average 40%. That needs to change! https://t.co/cIyD5oTCRA
Whilst the potato is the most wasted food at home, it’s second to sugar beet on farm #foodwaste. In total, 1.6m tonnes of #foodwaste occurs on UK farms, and 2m tonnes of surplus food arises. The combined value of all this food is more than £1 billion. #Farm24@FarmersGuardian
When food is wasted, the resources that went into producing that food are also lost.
Here's how to help reduce food waste:
✏️ Have a weekly meal plan
👨🍳 Be creative with recipes
🥦 Finish leftovers

Ethylene is a chemical released by produce to start the ripening process. However, it can also cause products to have a shorter shelf life and eventually be wasted.
By controlling ethylene, shelf life can be extended.
You may be able to check your temperature to see if you have a cold, but sadly that doesn't apply to fresh produce.
However, integrating temperature data with spectroscopy data can help to predict shelf life and understand how long something will be fresh for!
Not sure what the difference between FEFO and FIFO is?
FIFO is a common approach because of its simplicity. However, shelf life can vary greatly between batches. Implementing FEFO ensures better freshness management.
Innovations in food #sustainability such as #AI have the potential to jump-start a circular economy in agriculture, and “designing out” #foodwaste in the value chain
