Yes @abhilashtomy, a sad loss as another of our 1971 war heroes departs this world close on the heels of #CmdeIJSharma few weeks ago.

Folks, #CdrAshokKumar, Vir Chakra, bids adieu after a brief illness. A resident of Mumbai, Ashok sir led a quiet, understated life, never once trumpeting about his heroics in the 1971 war.

If IJ saw action in the West, Cdr Ashok Kumar was involved in the tiny little ship #INSPanvel that went all the way up Pussur river. It was full of drama and action. A wonderful description also obtains in @SandeepUnnithan book 'Op X'. The exploits of all those in that Force & especially on #INSPanvel be it #CaptMNRSamant or #LtCdrNoronha or indeed #CdrRameshKumar are the stuff of legend and deserve retelling multiple times. Do read the Vir Chakra citation attached of #CdrAshokKumar

I used to be in touch with #CdrAshokKumar occasionally. He read all my msgs & encouraged my pursuits. Our last exchange was in mid May this year when he mentioned his illness and being on Oxygen therapy but expressed hope that he would recover. Dignified and gracious as ever he said he didn't need any help or assistance to my specific query. One of my memorable moments was when in 2020/21 thereabouts, I could get a detailed video byte from him on the Force Alpha action for a ship that was jointly anchored by @authoramish & I for @NehruCentre, @IndiainUK

I don't know how many people in Mumbai are/were aware of the hero(es) amidst us. Perhaps, a fitting tribute to folks like #CdrAshokKumar and to the good ship #INSPanvel
is a memorial in/near the city of Panvel (or close to the new Airport) that honours the stirring deeds of stalwarts who are departing from amidst us.

Go gently Ashok sir. You will be remembered. Om Shanti Om Sadgati.
