It’s not a “failed comeback.” This was a solid comeback, in my opinion. You may not have graduated with a First Class CGPA, but this is the kind of comeback that wins multiple scholarships if you know how to tell your story properly.

Here’s how you should use this to your advantage:

In your essay (SOP or whichever essay is appropriate), dedicate a paragraph to highlighting your academic resilience. Start by saying that your undergraduate journey is a testament to your academic resilience. Explain that 4.5 is a First Class GPA, the highest distinction attainable at your university. Then acknowledge that you started poorly with a 3.10, but instead of giving up, you worked hard, improved semester after semester, and ultimately graduated with a 4.47 CGPA, just 0.03 points away from a First Class.

Conclude by showing that this is bigger than GPAs. It demonstrates who you are: someone who doesn’t give up, someone who learns from setbacks, and someone who turns challenges into progress. That is part of what you are bringing with you: academic resilience.

If I were on a scholarship committee and saw this, I’d be impressed.

Here’s a sample paragraph based on my suggestions above:

My undergraduate journey is a testament to my academic resilience. I began my degree with a 3.10 GPA, a Second Class Lower performance that challenged me to reconsider my approach to learning and academic success. Rather than allowing that setback to define my journey, I used it as motivation to improve, working deliberately and consistently semester after semester. This effort culminated in a 4.47 CGPA at graduation, just 0.03 points short of a First Class, the highest distinction attainable at my university. More than a reflection of my grades, this journey reflects who I am as a student: someone who learns from setbacks and continually strives to turn difficulties into progress. This is one of the many qualities I will bring to my next academic journey.

Other paragraphs can focus on other qualities/skills and experiences that make you a strong candidate.
