Attention is a drug, and people are addicted to fame and witness. Politics has always been American Idol for scarecrows. We could call this stochastic terrorism, but no one is guilty because speech is free, right? Unless it’s about Covid. Or Israel. Or if you want to criticize Charlie. AG Pam Bondi has declared a war on hate speech “because of Charlie.”

If both sides are hypocritical, you don’t get to call them different—or even “sides”—anymore.

Maybe binary politics is just as flawed as non-binary politics. Maybe anyone who wants to dehumanize half the population is not only wrong but nefarious, untrustworthy, and basically an addict.
