Nowadays, you have to be prepared for the possibility that anyone can become a stranger again, no matter how strong the bond was .
So practice law of detachment for your own good😌
Your office culture should be practised within the confines of your office.
I just saw the video of the young lady addressing Tony Elumelu by his first name, and honestly, I understand why he corrected her.
It has nothing to do with being a billionaire or about Tony Elumelu himself.
It is about understanding that there are spaces where the culture you have been taught at work does not automatically override the culture you were raised with.
We are Africans.
We have always had a culture of respecting our elders, particularly people who have earned a certain level of achievement, authority and social standing.
You may call your manager “Tony” in the office because that is your company's culture. Fine.
But when you step outside that structure and meet a man who is significantly older than you, highly accomplished and addressing you in a formal setting, perhaps “Mr Elumelu” or "Mr. Tony" is not such a difficult thing to say.
I keep wondering: would she call her father by his first name?
Would she call her uncle by his first name?
Would she address the lecturer who taught her by his first name because her workplace taught her that everyone should be on a first-name basis?
Of course not.
Because somewhere inside us, we still understand that familiarity does not erase respect.
And this is where I think we need to be careful with importing every aspect of Western corporate culture without understanding the context in which we are operating.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with modernising our workplaces. There is nothing wrong with creating environments where people can speak freely, where hierarchy does not become intimidation and where young people can contribute without fear.
But respect and hierarchy are not the same thing as oppression.
You can be confident without being disrespectful.
You can be modern without becoming culturally tone-deaf.
And you can work in an environment where everybody calls everybody by their first name without assuming that the same rule applies everywhere else.
Know the room.
Know the person.
Know the culture.
And above all, know when familiarity is appropriate and when respect should come first.
MY MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS ON THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE 2027
PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN
My dear Nigerians,
As the 2027 presidential campaign officially begins, I call on every Nigerian to reflect deeply on the state of our nation and the kind of country we want to leave for the next generation.
Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads. Our people are facing a difficult economic reality. The rising cost of food and essential goods has placed enormous pressure on families.
Millions of young Nigerians are searching for meaningful employment and opportunities, while businesses are struggling with high operating costs and an uncertain economic environment.
At the same time, insecurity continues to threaten communities across the country. Too many families have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violence.
Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear.
Our education and healthcare systems require urgent investment. Our infrastructure must be improved, our institutions strengthened, and public resources managed with greater
transparency and accountability.
These challenges are serious, but Nigeria is full of hope. We have the people, resources and potential to build a prosperous and secure nation. What we need is leadership with the competence, courage and commitment to put the interests of Nigerians first.
This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria. We believe in a country where government serves the people, where hard work is rewarded, where young people can build successful futures at home, and where every citizen has a fair opportunity to prosper.
To our young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals, I ask you to join us in this journey.
Let us move beyond politics of division and focus on the issues that affect our daily lives. Let us demand accountability, competence and results from those entrusted with public office.
The 2027 election presents Nigerians with an opportunity to choose a new direction.
I therefore call on all Nigerians to support the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket and all candidates of the NDC and join us in the task of rebuilding our nation.
Let us campaign peacefully, responsibly and with the national interest at heart.
Together, we can build a stronger nation and Nigeria will be OK. - RMK
Imagine your salary increases by ₦500,000 tomorrow.
What happens next?
If your expenses immediately increase by ₦500,000 too, your financial position may barely change.
But if you direct part of that increase toward assets...
Your future changes.
Every income increase is an opportunity to increase ownership.
Diplomacy is speaking from a place of understanding, not judgement; compassion, not coldness; empathy and not insensitivity.
Choosing understanding at all times makes us more humane.
There is a place of diplomacy in human relationships.
Please, use it when necessary.
Picture this:
My friend calls me and says…
“Oh dear, it’s been a while you came visiting”.
And then I respond…
“Yea it has”
My friend then presses to know why I haven’t been showing up for her like I used to; and she does same.
And then I go…
“To be sincere my friend, it’s because your house is just not convenient to stay in. I don’t feel comfortable whenever I’m around.
Not just because it’s too small. But, also because, your little brother always like to hug me.
And whenever he does, his saliva is usually on my dress.
Truthful? Yes.
You spoke your mind.
But, was that truth necessary? NO!
Your friend already knows that she has a small house.
Your friend knows as well that her little brother drools.
You’re not being “plain” or “truthful”.
You’re being incredibly insensitive.
Diplomacy is not dishonesty.
It is the wisdom to understand that not every truth needs to be delivered in its rawest form.
The issue is not that you told the truth.
The issue is the manner, relevance, and usefulness of the truth.
Another instance:
Your friend has been in a financial mess. And shares their struggle in finding a job with you.
Your response:
“To be honest, you’re not particularly impressive, and you don’t really have the kind of skills employers are looking for.
Even if you get the job, you’d end up losing it still.”
Worse still, you didn’t even proffer a solution for that friend.
All you can do is tear down a person with your unnecessary “truths”.
Not every observation is a necessary contribution to a conversation.
Not every truth deserves to be spoken simply because it is true.
Instead, see how you can help.
If you can’t help and feel too choked by the situation, withdraw.
The cruelest thing about a statement, is that the speaker had no reason to say it except to make the other person feel small.
Stop it.
@Confydens6 Diplomacy helps you to say the uncomfortable truth without hurting or calling anyone out directly.
That's why you choose your words wisely to avoid being called the insensitive person.
I learnt this from someone, the person said not every thing needs to be uttered as it is.
There is a place of diplomacy in human relationships.
Please, use it when necessary.

@jon_d_doe Until people realize that religion teaches us to be godly or being religious is portraying godliness then we still have a long way to.
go.
Even in the Bible Christ called the Pharisees, scribes and teachers of the law hypocrites.
Why?
Because they were not practicing what..
@jon_d_doe And most people mix these two up.
When people want to know your faith what they ask is your religion?
And when one acts in some certain type of way that isn't right you'd hear people say "this person isn't God-fearing".
Pointing out the person's character.
@jon_d_doe Religion/ being religious your belief or the faith you practice or identify with.
Being godly: your character towards people, how you live and treat people around you.
@jon_d_doee Fathers would always stand out in their approach and method of teaching and discipline.
In just a few seconds he has taught those children a lifelong lesson.
I don't know which is more appealing?
Serving the people well and earning their votes without having to struggle for it or using money to buy people's vote to get back to office.
The former will flow naturally, because people will always remember how you treat them.
