@matterasmachine@Artful_Memes but this is my view I totally respect others viewpoints and would stand alongside anybody that felt scooped by oai and cares about attribution.
Really happy that Open AI killed all math journals and the problem solving/theorem proving/publish or perish paradigm in one shot, there is no more competition in math and this is the best thing that could happen to mathematics.
@Artful_Memes@matterasmachine "create something and put your name on it in some way is one of the most amazing feelings" this is an opinion personally I know this feeling but I prefer when I just understand something deeply or develop an idea no need to put my name on it to feel the dopamine hit (for me)
@noesis89474724 this is truly mathematics intereste in the objects of the platonic realm, not in some Hilbert-Yau-Hodge-Grothendieck-whatever conjecture because of the names, it's just that I feel that when we get in academia people forget about the objects and get interested in the people
@noesis89474724 well at the very basic level I would say people who show deep understanding of math for example understand say 1 to 3 papers of the slop that came out, that is being able to come with new questions that are of interests and new pov, reformulations, interest in the objects...
@Artful_Memes And its funny and interesting to see at the beginning of Ai until today the publish or perish mentality produced people who don't even understand the thms that the machines are sticking together to get a paper and not perish, let alone understanding the big picture of a theory
@Artful_Memes Because making it the only metric to decide who has the right to be funded to do math, converges towards the publish or perish paradigme that we had pre-Ai which ends by people not even understanding the big picture of a theory and stiking together thms to publish
@Artful_Memes Problem solving is fun I agree it's just that first: its not necessarily the best metric to measure understanding and second : what I try to criticize is making it the only way to provide fundings to people who geniuenly want to understand math and reality
@Y618615647559 Yeah maybe but Im not sure that it would be that way in the long run, at least honest people would care more maybe about new ways of seeing things, genuine curiosity, new formulations, will to understand deeply... there is a lot to math than just problem solving
