@AJCassavell Does the “if any part of the ball is hanging over fair territory” apply to balls hit down the line past one of the bases? Because they always informally use the imprint of the ball to say whether it’s fair or foul
🚨WEIRD PLAY ALERT🚨
From tonight’s @Pirates at @Rangers game, and it’s a fun one.
Jake Burger’s 105 MPH smash gets stuck in the webbing of Nick Yorke’s glove.
The ruling: Base Hit!
Here is why. If the ball goes through the glove, that would be considered an error on the fielder (this is a change from about 10 years ago) as the fielder is responsible for their own equipment, and the failure to keep it up is on them.
But this didn’t go through the glove…it got stuck. Since Yorke couldn’t get it out, this is basically slow-handling, like a double-clutch trying to get a ball out of a glove. Slow-handling is a hit, so this goes down as a hit.
What a wild one in Texas!

@KegleyTim @ThoughtsLex That’s not exactly true. If I remember the nimmo AB correctly, all three strikes were out of the zone. But the ump called a ball on a pitch in the zone.🤦♂️
