Pope Leo XIV will undertake an apostolic journey to France from Sept. 25 - 28, a visit which will include a stop at the headquarters of UNESCO.
The trip was officially announced on May 16 by Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni. The Holy See did not immediately release the full itinerary of the trip.
The visit will mark the popeʼs fifth international apostolic journey.
The pope has already visited Turkey and Lebanon (in late 2025) and Monte Carlo (in March 2026).
In April he undertook a major voyage to Africa — with the trip spanning Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea — and is scheduled to visit Spain from June 6 - 12.
He is widely expected to also visit Latin America in the fall.
The last visit by a pope to France dates to Dec. 15, 2024, when Pope Francis traveled to Ajaccio, Corsica.
The theme of @Pontifex 's 3rd apostolic journey (13-23 April) to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola & Equatorial Guinea is peace. See texts & clips from the 11 day journey through 11 cities, with links to the full itinerary & text of each stop along the way.

In his homily during Mass in Mongomo, Pope Leo recalled the missionaries who began to evangelize Equatorial Guinea 170 years ago, and pointed to the words of Pope St. Paul VI in 1969: “Africans, from now on, you are missionaries to yourselves.”
At the end of the Mass he celebrated in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea, Pope Leo took a moment to pray before a beautiful image of the Immaculate Conception. Meanwhile, the enthusiastic choir sang such a joyful hymn that it moved hearts even from afar.
No one is excluded from God’s love! With our unique pasts, mistakes, and sufferings, each one of us remains precious in the Lord’s eyes. Jesus revealed this to us in His every encounter, gesture, and word. He loved us to the very end, showing us that he believed in the power of love to change even the hardest of hearts. #ApostolicJourney #EquatorialGuinea
