@Slowturtle11fan for artwork, avoid text or complicated logos near the character's face, it makes the face stand out less (this comes directly from the BFDI character guide book, I think its a really good tip that I dont see people applying)
also colour balance!! make sure the cast is colourful

otherwise you end up with stuff like IIs1 where Pepper was just "Salt's friend" while Salt got to have that friendship ALONGSIDE her crush with OJ
