Tony Robbins said it best:
“You are now at a crossroads. This is your opportunity to make the most important decision you will ever make. Forget your past. Who are you now? Who have you decided you really are now? Don't think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make this decision consciously. Make it carefully. Make it powerfully. Then act upon it.”
the era of autistic deep work is over
your agents are more autistic than you and better at deep work
welcome to the shallow work future
total ADHD dominance
You are your own worst enemy.
You waste precious time dreaming of the future instead of engaging in the present.
Since nothing seems urgent to you, you are only half involved in what you do.
The only way to change is through action and outside pressure.
The greatest trait you can acquire is to work with tremendous intensity on things that matter to you, and more importantly, be strangely unbothered when those things don't work out.
The fastest way to change your life is to rip yourself out of your (physical and digital) environment. Change everything overnight. The places you go, the accounts you follow, the info you consume, etc. It's difficult but it absolutely works.
Dana White: "There's this Bruce Lee quote where he says, 'Never say negative things about yourself or what you're working on even if you're joking, because your body doesn't know the difference.'"
If you don't wake up excited and go to bed tired, drop everything and think of what your future will look like if you keep repeating the same day for the rest of your life. Sit with that discomfort until a new direction appears.
speaking of which, a good method for rapid deep learning I’ve found lately -
> open Claude in a directory dedicated to a specific topic you want to go deeper on
> prompt it to act as an expert on the topic and interview you one question at a time, gauging your knowledge level and gaps and recording them to a md file each turn
> after a few turns have it map your level of understanding to a tailored learning plan
> use the plan and its memory to keep diving deeper on the topic, effectively both teaching you and augmenting your brain
> bonus: connect to other subject directories for it to form a latticework of your understanding
This summer I implore you to find something to get good at. Something that is out of your comfort zone, that has a steep learning curve and clear progression parameters. Linear progress does something to the mind. It feeds a part of you that is probably suppressed from all the doomscrolling. This is core to the human experience.
More importantly learning how to learn is a skill, a very important one at that. One that will literally help every area of your life and be the greatest personal differentiator if you're able to acquire it. So start now. It can be anything: drawing, tennis, baking. Get good as fast as possible. Dedicate time to it daily. It’s very likely that all you’re missing is a cognitively stimulating side quest.
I'm convinced that 99% of success is just working in a flow state for 4 hours a day. The person who can stay off their phones and away from notifications will absolutely crush it.
