We are thrilled to see all levels of government collaborating on this program. This is the type of bold action that will get more homes built, support growing communities, and help Ontarians keep more money in their pockets.
I was thrilled to present Mayor Chow and the City of Toronto with the first cheque from our Development Charge Reduction Program.
In exchange for this $1.5 billion investment in local infrastructure, the city is cutting development charges by up to 60 per cent, which works out to more than $80,000 per home. When combined with our removal of the HST on new homes, we are lowering housing costs by more than $200,000 for many homebuyers.

Thank you to Minister @andrea_khanjin for taking the time to meet with OREA leaders to discuss how the Government can take further action to overhaul the development charge framework in Ontario and reduce barriers to housing affordability for families across the province.
Great conversation with MPP @JohnFraserOS on how development charges contribute to higher housing costs, keeping the dream of homeownership out of reach for families. We look forward to continued collaboration on important issues to further tackle housing affordability.
