Prolonged powerlessness will inevitably burn you out
Just heard this phrase “think global act local”
Such a beautifully succinct way to capture an idea that helps you to be in your power even when the world is on fire
There’s a difference between acceptance and resignation.
If you resign that your house is on fire it burns to the ground.
If you accept that your house is on fire you can get a fire exstinguisher.
There's a difference between nice and kind
Nice is not telling someone their fly is down because you don't want to embarrass them.
Kind is telling them their fly is down so they don't have to go through the rest of the day like that.
There’s a difference between a gratitude practice and gaslighting yourself.
If your life is built around someone else’s expectations no amount of gratitude is going to fix that.
A vacation isn’t going to fix your burnout.
1 week back at work you’re already burned out again.
You’re burning out because you were taught that what you want doesn’t matter.
You have a thought so fast you don’t even clock it.
And then two hours later you’re in a bad mood and you have no idea why.
That’s you still responding to something you didn’t let yourself feel.
Your emotions constantly weigh on you.
They’re like a warehouse that’s overflowing because no one ever taught you how to process them.
You carry that around ALL the time, and it’s heavy.
When you come in week after week doing the hard scary work, you can start to dread being in that space.
Part of my job is giving you permission to be proud of yourself.
Otherwise what’s it all for?
You constantly criticize yourself and it kills your momentum.
It’s not the criticism that’s the problem.
It’s where it’s placed.
Instead of criticizing yourself during the process, do it after.
“Everything you want in life is on the other side of a few uncomfortable conversations”
You avoid asking for a raise. Asking for more from your partner. Telling someone they hurt you.
Because on some level you don’t believe you deserve it.
You think talking about things won’t fix your problems. You’ve gone to therapy and told them your entire life story and all you got back was “Oh but you’re so self-aware, what’s the matter?”
