BREAKING: Edo State Special Court set up by Governor Okpebholo to handle cult-related and kidnapping cases has delivered judgment in its first case by sentencing four suspected kidnappers to death by hanging over the kidnapping of one Precious Oseghale at Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City on June 14th, 2026.

Justice T. A. Momodu found the four suspects guilty on the 11-count charge relating to alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The judge also rejected the alibi defence presented by the suspects, noting that they did not raise it during police questioning.

The four suspected kidnappers are:
- Marvellous Isaac, aged 32
- Wisdom Michael, aged 36
- Rufus Emete Michael, aged 30
- Gift Raphael, aged 27

The special court was established by the Chief Judge of Edo State to facilitate the speedy trial of cases involving alleged cultism and kidnapping, following a request by Governor Okpebholo to the Chief Judge on June 19.

The governor had also vowed to sign the death warrant for kidnappers and cultists convicted under state laws and have them executed by hanging.

“We are going to set up a special court to prosecute kidnappers and cultists. Within two weeks, the court is done with proceedings. I will sign your execution. We will take you to the Ring Road roundabout so that Edo people can watch. I will have no regret about it. Don’t take my simplicity for granted,” the governor had said.

Gateway Deep Sea Port Construction Begins in November

We are pleased to announce that construction of the over $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside will commence in November, immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Following the signing of the MoU with DP World MEA FZE in Paris, witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are moving decisively from planning to implementation. We expect the port to be substantially completed within two and a half years.

This transformational project will unlock the enormous maritime and economic potential of Ogun State, attract major investments, create jobs and position Ogun Waterside and our State as a major maritime hub in West Africa.

We are equally encouraged by the rehabilitation of the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Ore Road and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which will further strengthen connectivity and economic activities across Ogun East.

Beyond maritime development, we remain committed to harnessing the vast bitumen deposits within the Ijebu East axis and exploring the crude oil potential identified in parts of our State.

We deeply appreciate President Tinubu for his unwavering support and commitment to this historic project. Our administration will continue to combine vision with implementation to unlock opportunities, attract investment and deliver sustainable prosperity for the people of Ogun State.

We have taken another significant step towards unlocking the economic potential of Ogun State with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with DP World MEA FZE for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.

The projects, witnessed by our President, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in Paris, France, are expected to attract more than $7 billion in initial investment and create over 50,000 direct jobs, while opening new opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, maritime services, exports and other sectors.

The Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun Waterside will be integrated with a proposed 10,000-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone and connected to other strategic infrastructure, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and our Gateway International Airport.

For us, this is about much more than building a port. We are creating an integrated economic corridor capable of connecting Ogun State’s productive capacity to markets across Africa and the rest of the world.

We appreciate President Tinubu for the leadership and federal support that have helped move this long-standing vision closer to reality. We equally commend the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Nigerian Ports Authority and all our partners for their commitment.

Florence Ajimobi appointed Nigeria’s governor on IAEA board

Florence Ajimobi, Nigeria’s ambassador to Austria, has been appointed the country’s governor on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors for the 2026-2028 term.

Final post on Peter Obi and I'll shift my attention to other matters temporarily, assuming Obidients won't provoke me again...

When you see Peter Obi talking about taxation, especially during the tax reform bills conversation last year and the year before, with the way he was lambasting President Tinubu and accusing him of taxing poverty, you'll think he gave tax exemption to ndi Anambra for the eight years he was our governor.

On the contrary, Mr. Peter Obi imposed high levies and taxes on struggling traders in such an arbitrary way to the point that market women had to protest to the government house in Agu Awka.

In this video, you can see a trader complaining that Obi was taxing them N9,600 per individual. To contextualise this, in 2011 Nigeria's minimum wage was increased to N18,000. So, Obi was trying to collect more than 50% of the minimum wage as tax from market women including petty traders.

This is the same Peter Obi that is fond of telling you he lifted people out of poverty.

In the video you can see Obi's SSG, Chief Oseloka Obaze trying to address the women but they insisted on hearing directly from Obi.

Despite this high levies, most of the IGR eventually found their way into private pockets.

Well, I'm glad a lot of people now know some truths about Obi's governance in Anambra State.

I know you're a very lazy so-called OAP but I'm hoping you'll make sense of this data to know Tinubu actually reduced the poverty rate before he left in 2007 despite the massive migration from other states to Lagos putting undue pressure on the state's economy and its infrastructure.
