Was a wonderful chase with many great supercell thunderstorms, rapidly rotating wall clouds, multiple funnel clouds, rainbows, amazing mammatus clouds at sunset, and at least 2 tornadoes! We move on to our research project phase next when students analyze data from the storms we saw and present this week! Thank you, Ethan Pierce, for the great funnel shot! @sunyoswego

After our morning forecast discussion, the crew is setting up for a late show today in southern South Dakota and playing our favorite game: Will storms initiate to our east or west? Which environment is most favorable?

We'll stay put until we have a better idea!

The chasers are headed towards Reliance, SD after much deliberation on whether to chase in northern or southern South Dakota. Our forecast team anticipates that the conditions are more favorable in the south despite much discussion of conditions further north.

A bit frustrating day for @OswegoChasers as storms took awhile to get going, but we launched a sounding used by @NWSSPC , met with the @DOWFacility fine folks, saw lots of neat cloudscapes including KH waves, supercell structure, and funnel clouds (3) in #SDwx @sunyoswego
