A patient died during a mattress change.

They were in the last days of life and the request was for an urgent dynamic air mattress because they were “end of life”.

It prompted an important reflection 🧵

Perhaps the real question isn’t:

What equipment should we provide?

But:

What kind of dying experience are we trying to support?

Another reflection:

Clinicians often seem comfortable supporting a younger dying person to remain in their own bed.

Yet older people are often more quickly moved into a hospital-style set-up.

Why is that?
