At 95 years old, Dottie Schneider had one wish during her family vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama: to spend time by the ocean once again.

But walking across the deep, soft sand to reach the shoreline was impossible for her.

The lifeguards of Orange Beach Surf Rescue made sure that wouldn't keep her from enjoying the beach.

Every day for nearly a week, they met Dottie at her condo, carefully carried and escorted her across the sand, settled her comfortably into her beach chair, checked on her throughout the day, and returned at sunset to help her safely back home.

For Dottie, who had often been unable to leave the pool area on previous trips because she couldn't navigate the sand, it was a chance to feel the sea breeze, listen to the waves, and place her feet in the sand once more.

Her family was deeply touched by the kindness shown to her and, before heading back to Indiana, stocked the lifeguards' refrigerator with food and drinks as a heartfelt thank-you.
