作为学生，有时候对老师说的话还是要多想一层。

其实大部分师长都是比较鼓励学生往学术界发展的，毕竟你要是去公司发财了，或者回国考公务员什么的，对老师大概率就没什么价值了。说太多 negative 的话劝退你，对老师本人也没什么好处。

我曾经也被不少师长、同门评价为比较适合当 faculty 的人，但是我觉得大家可能只是 be nice，有些事情看破不说破罢了。而且以我的水平，实在是承担不起大家的祝福。

师长的鼓励有时候确实是很温暖的事情，但对自己的实力和未来还是要有清醒的认识。

如果能过上简单而幸福的生活，为什么一定要盲目地把大好青春浪费在 PhD program 里呢？

读博最讽刺的一件事，可能是我们花几年时间研究不确定性，却无法接受自己的人生存在不确定性。

本科、硕士、博士、Postdoc、Faculty。

仿佛人生是一条必须按顺序完成的 Pipeline，任何一次中断、转行或者退出，都意味着过去的投入全部白费。

但我觉得这里有一个很反直觉的问题：

我们在科研中鼓励探索、试错和及时放弃错误假设，却在自己的人生选择上，把坚持既定路线当成了一种美德。

一个 Research Idea 做了半年没有前景，我们知道应该及时止损。

但一个 PhD 读了几年，即使已经不喜欢科研、不认同未来的职业方向，却很容易因为「都读到这里了」，继续投入更多年。

这其实是典型的 Sunk Cost Fallacy。

当然，我不认为读博没有价值。

PhD 可以带来系统化的科研训练、专业知识、学术信用和长期职业选择权。

但一项训练具有价值，不代表它在任何人生阶段都值得继续投入。

真正应该比较的，不是已经花掉的几年，而是从今天开始，继续读完和选择其他道路，各自能够带来多少未来价值。

更重要的是：

一个人完全可以热爱科学，却不想成为教授；可以拥有科研能力，却不愿意把自己的一生交给学术评价体系。

我越来越觉得，成熟的人生规划不是把每个阶段都按时完成，而是不断重新审视自己的目标，并允许人生发生非线性的变化。

博士学位应该是帮助你获得更多人生选择的工具，而不是因为已经投入几年，就逐渐失去选择的理由。

人生不是一条不能回滚的 Training Pipeline。

有时候，真正的成长不是把当前的任务完成，而是意识到自己已经不再需要完成它。

课题组的两位博士师弟毕业了，前两天参加了谢师宴，一些已经毕业的学生也来了，包括一些待业的博士。
今年工作依旧不好找，高端985学校的博后岗位都需要竞争上岗。应届男博士要展现出疯狗的撕咬感，才能在学术界抢的一席之地。组里的女博士成果更少，也不想再卷了，前途迷茫。

A court order was reportedly issued to MTN Ghana on June 23. Someone mistakenly transferred GH₵60,000 and contacted MTN MoMo, which successfully placed the money on hold. Over 4 months later, No timeframe from MTN, MTN has still not released the money to the sender, even after the recipient confirmed it was a wrong transaction. Some people also claim that MTN eventually deactivates accounts after a certain period. This raises serious concerns about possible insider work. Ghanaian authorities need to sit up and investigate MTN work in this country.

Hello @samgeorgegh @thebankofghana this could possibly involve some people within MTN and PaySwitch working together to pull this off. MTN has been taking people’s money. Over the past 2 days, I have received reports of people affected by similar issues, involving amounts totaling over GH₵1,000,000. We are calling for a thorough investigation into this matter.

This lady said “We’re so brainwashed that when I say happy spouse happy house, y’all call me male-centered.” And the way she said “this is a woman-centered society... 1000% unequivocally” had me nodding like damn, she said it with her chest.

I feel her on the “loud collective” part too. The ones who are out here acting entitled, disrespectful, and emotionally all over the place are the ones getting all the airtime. Meanwhile the normal, cool, actually pleasant women are just living their lives quietly and somehow men start thinking "that’s the average". It’s annoying for everybody.

And the “I wouldn’t want to date you either if I was a man” line? Brutal. Accurate though.

She not even saying women are the problem in some deep evil way... she’s just saying stop acting like the whole world has to revolve around us and then get mad when somebody wants balance. Nuclear family centered feels like a solid middle ground instead of this constant gender scorekeeping.

Anyway, she was locked in the whole time. Respect.

If sex is a big deal to you, stay OFF marriage.
