@Vozskii Apex 0ms RAA should be enough to raise blaring warning alarms about the state of AA but apparently we can't have this discussion on that game (probably doesn't look flashy enough)?
There needs to be a serious objective conversation regarding Aim Assist & how bad it is currently over taking competitive FPS for the worst.
There are hundreds/thousands of careers built and maintained solely around the ability to understand and abuse aim assist to win every engagement.
Anytime you bring this conversation up, the only responses you get boil down to “then just switch” or “you have your whole arm stop complaining”.
But we need to be completely serious.
The vast majority if not all Pro players on COD, Halo, & Apex Legends are controller players.
These are some of the highest paying competitive cross-play FPS in the game and we’ve completely forgotten MNK players where true mechanical skill lies.
I’m not disregarding the fact there are plenty of truly mechanically gifted roller players & other exceptionally smart players that could exist at a high level in their respective games without or with heavily nerfed AA.
But these players specifically, would only benefit from large nerfs to AA - I also understand it’s a lot easier to input high APM on MNK + being able to flick & be incredibly precise etc.
I truly believe there SHOULD be aim assist for controller players, but the level it’s gotten to is so incredibly casual it’s hard for me to believe.
When AA was only Slow down mechanics, I feel like it didn’t need to go so much further? Rotational aim assist allows for so much more control that can be abused simply by spamming strafe directions back and forth or mirroring, gunfights in these games are purely won by simply who abuses the mechanics better and not who actually played / positioned / aimed better.
When I watch good gyro aim players, although on controller - the mechanics seem so different to organic roller & so much closer to MNK, why are people not embracing this form of gameplay on controller more and pushing competitive controller play towards this style if nothing else?
Why can we not just turn down AA for competitive / ranked play & leave it busted for the casuals who "need" it?
Will we ever find a closer middle ground to get ~ 50/50 in Roller vs MNK in Pro FPS games?
Ironically we need more controller players to be vocal about this topic. I know quite a few Pro COD/Apex players push for AA nerfs, but how is the entire casual population in these games blinded by the light that is giving them fake skill?
This is a massive nerf for snipers and sweet spot. You now have to aim for chest or head for a one shot in MP, and it takes atleast another bullet to kill someone in RedSec unless you hit head / chest.
I already knew I wasn't going to like solos in RedSec - but it's way worse than I expected, and it actually accurately showcases a huge problem in RedSec (And maybe bf6?) right now.
1v1 is straight up 50-50. Getting a win in solos feels like putting everything on red until you go big or go bankrupt.
As I've touched on previously, headshots don't matter enough. This means that a game that already is incredibly defender-sided, becomes even moreso as headglitches are 10x more effective compared to other shooters.
Combine this with low tickrate, weird netcode, completely unreliable / nonexistent audio cues, weird bloom and dispersion, input assymetry (aim assist + lower recoil on controller for starters), unreliable weapons and features (through bugs or other design choices) and it's no wonder that fights feel unrewarding to win, and frustrating to lose.
In duos or in quads, the optimal strategy is to run at an enemy as 4. You make up for the difference in numbers, rather than individual skill.
Obviously, skill can still move the needle - but only to a certain extent. And ultimately you'll still die in the stupidest ways imaginable even though you do everything right.
It's similar to Arc Raiders in a way - where fighting feels so awful that people just avoid doing it altogether. Except you can't be friendly in solos, so they just start camping in random buildings hoping to get a win.
I'm hoping this will feel better in the June 30th patch, and that there is more work on that after that - because right now, fighting is just frustrating.
