I had a conversation with a fellow Arsenal fan at church today, and I think that’s my closure on Gyökeres.

He made a very simple point. He said; When Arsenal were reportedly pushing hard to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid, and Arteta eventually stopped playing Gyökeres for 90 minutes, why weren’t fans of other clubs saying, “We should go and sign Gyökeres”?

He continued. “If he was genuinely viewed as this elite striker that everyone was supposedly missing out on, you’d expect fans of other clubs to have been pushing for him too”.

I didn’t have that perspective before, but that conversation made me understand why his cult is always trying to convince us that he has qualities we can’t see. You don’t need to explain why an elite player is elite. Everyone should be able to see it, including rival fans.

The way some supposed Arsenal fans slander our own players is even worse than rival fans. You post every misplaced pass and abuse them at every opportunity, forgetting that a player who has spent time on the bench needs games to regain confidence and get back to his best.

Some of you don’t really care about the club; you just want clicks and social media earnings. There’s nothing wrong with being a content creator, but stop pretending everything is about supporting Arsenal.

Fans can criticise players, but constantly looking for mistakes just to slander your own players isn’t support. Have some shame.

3). Starts scoring then call him injury prone upon injury
4). Comes back struggles to score again - more slander
5). More slander but starts picking up form and Arsenal take control of the league
6). Carries us in the UCL semi finals despite Kai Havertz dropping stinkers vs Bayern Munich
7). Arteta starts Havertz in the UCL final, the moment he’s fit
8). Plays 50 minutes in the UCL final
9). Makes his penalty but is still slandered for open play performance
10). Gets linked to Julian Alvarez swap every single day for 75 days of the transfer window
11). Gets slandered before the season starts
12). Arteta starts Kai Havertz in every important game

He was starting games and took us the farthest Arsenal have been in 2 decades.

Through all of it, still gets slandered daily on timeline. No one has been treated worse (not Pepe, not Martinelli, not Kai Havertz) than Gyokeres since arriving.

Probably better that he never came… but then again, Arsenal fans would still complain about a different player
